Looking at a set of axles from a 78 f-250. Is there any chance of fitting 15" wheels over the stock brakes? Would probably be leaving drums in the rear for the time being. This would be nice as i could keep my tires until i could afford larger ones.

15x10 8 lug 2" back spacing

OK thanks for the info, that is good news. Im assuming that means that i have to use reverse center wheels, i was hoping to avoid that so i could use weld in beadlocks(like the set you have ;-) ) Would any amount of grinding allow me to run standard center wheels?

yes, you can also gring the calipers down to fit the wheels.
ive seen it done more than once.

Once again, thanks for the info. I think that grinding is the route i will go, I want to keep the track width down to a reasonable level. Thought about hummer wheels, but didn't want the hubs sticking out that far. I guess recentered hummers would be a decent choice, but probably out of my price range, and I am not sure if i want to limit myself to a 16.5" wheel.

x2 on what Mike has said... its been done quite a bit to clear 15s... if you decide to goto another size, h1s are good choices like mentioned, as well as H2s in the 17" wheel, that will help to bring the track width back in...

I dont remember what backspacing i had on my chevy d44. But the wheels were 15x8 with weld in locks and i had to grind like a mofo. When i swapped out to the d60 they were way off. I wonder if theres a way to put the d44 brakes on the d60?

So am I right that any 2.75 inch BS 15x8" wheel would be a reversed center wheel?? If so i may go ahead and step up to a different wheel size. It wouldn't be worth it to buy wheels that i wouldn't be able to beadlock.

I studied a great deal on trying to adapt D44 Half ton brakes on the 8 lug 3/4 ton outers. The knuckle simply wont allow for it, modifying it isn't an option either, you'd have to hack it up into nothing.

I'm running 15's on mine Adam. My first set of wheels were 3+" BS and I had to grind the calipers, but my Allieds are 2.75ish IIRC and they don't rub nearly as much.

Either way, I haven't had problems from grinding the calipers I think its approaching 3 years now...
