HP44 Spindle Bearing Question
78 Bronco HP44 in a TJ:
First trail ride after building the TJ, broke the front driver-side axleshaft. Pulled everything apart to replace the shaft this week and the Spindle Bearing was destroyed.

Questions:
1) If you carry spare front shafts, do you also carry spare spindle bearings?
2) Can you run without the spindle bearings?

No, I carry a spare spindle with bearing. Then I upgrade to chromoly so don't worry about it any more.

no he's saying he carries a spare spindle with the bearing already installed (gubNi correct me if i'm wrong). that would be difficult to change out the bearing on the trail.

Yes, I understood what he was saying. I was getting at "yeah, that makes sense to carry the spindle (with bearing installed) because it would be difficult and time consuming to remove what was left of the old bearing and install a new bearing in the old spindle on the trail."

Question remains: if you ran it without the bearing, would the shaft ride on the inside of the spindle and damage the shaft or spindle, or would it stay centered and not have any problems?
