KA-BOOM says the driver's side axle shaft.

I was wheeling like an idiot on the rock slab off of Trail 6 and sure enough, I snapped the axle shaft clean in half. The worst part was that it was just the second obstacle of the day.

A couple of us headed out to The Gulches this weekend for some nasty rock crawling. Nasty because everyone knows how that place gets after the rain. Not much traction was found all day. I blew an axle shaft, my buddy blew an o-ring, so we both took our lumps. The best part though? I parked the jeep and the wife and I wheeled the Hummer (tow rig) the rest of the day! It did awesome considering it's the great white rhino. Fun day all in all.

Broke the axle shaft here:

Started crawling up, slid over to the side and then BANG!:

Are you planning on painting those corners white? That was my favorite thing about your jeep, the white tube fenders

Great pictures as usual. Looks like a good time!

Hmmmm... not sure what you mean, I have had black rear corners and white front tube fenders for a looong time. Those are two different jeeps in the pics above.

My Jeep- white fronts and black rears:

I wheeled twice without my armor (it was being painted), so maybe you saw one of those pics?

Under construction, waiting on stretch corners:

Either way, I think once I get my hi-line fronts and some more cage work, I'll have it all repainted white, except for the sliders.

Awesome pix! I don’t recognize this as the gulches at all. Did they do some serious renovations?

Some great pix. Looks like a lot of fun. Sucks about the broken shaft. Were you still running the stockers? I'm gonna try to get back down there sometime before the first of the year. I completely missed trail 6 last time I was down there.

Man, you need a back-up tow rig for the tow rig/back-up wheeler. :D

Nice pictures as usual.

maybe you didnt have the corners on when I met you at gulches for the 4wp thing. You were waiting on the stretch kit. Or I could be crazy.

Ha! I guess I am the one going crazy, I did go to The Gulches in the middle of my stretch build. I remember your jeep too. I really regret the Clayton kit now though, I run a belly up (nearly flat belly) and the Clayton arms stick down nearly 3" below the frame. They get hung up on EVERYTHING. I called Clayton and they told me their arms are designed to work with their skid (which hangs low, not a belly up) and pretty much can't be adjusted.

I don't know what to do about it now because of the cash I sunk into it.:shaking:

94" wheelbase, no corners, Gulches:

I have the new (used) shaft in, just have to pick up the 34mm or what ever size socket to tighten it up. Oddly enough, the nut was only hand tight on the old shaft.

Should be ready to rock by tonight.

wow! did you clean up that shaft or did it really shear that perfectly? great pics btw

I didn't touch it, snapped clean off.

By the way, where would I pick up a spare shaft for the driver's side front Rubi 44 axle? I installed my spare and would like to have another backup.
