My hunting buddy and I had secured permission to hunt from "Mr. Smith" He owned several hundred acres that was full of turkey and whitetail. We were hunting deer. The morning we arrived he was in front of his home and we spoke to him , thanked him again and asked if he knew of any hot spots for big bucks. He told us what he had seen recently and we went to hunt.

The main path to the woods starts right behind his house and winds thru a field to the woods. My buddy and I hunted all day with no luck, we saw a few does but we were hunting wall hangers. We took a different path to the house on way back thru that field. About half way thru the field we come up on this huge hole in the ground. It had smooth sides like a well but was probably 10ā€˜ across and real deep. Just how deep we would never know. It was surrounded by little posts and what we call flagging tape, or surveyors tape. It was faded and hanging in places.

My friend and I stood by the hole and tried to figure out what it was. It was too big for a well and no mine goes straight down. As we spoke my buddy takes a rock and throws it in to the hole, we listen for a splash. Not a sound was heard. He looks at me and I think get a bigger rock, so I find a rock about 2-3 lbs and let it fly, we listen for several seconds and no sound of it landing. We try to figure out how deep it is by counting the seconds and trying to remember how fast things fall. Neither one of us is a real math wizard so we never figured out anything but "real deep".

As we start to leave my buddy see's this old straight shift transmission laying in the weeds. It is 2 1/2 feet long and weighs maybe 40-50 lbs. He said "This will make a noise when it lands." And then he heaves it into the hole, we listen, and listen, All of a sudden we hear this God Awful scream coming from the weeds, before we can think , this crazy goat comes out of the weeds straight for us. Now I have seen a lot of animals before but this goat has bulging eyes, his tongue is hanging out and swollen, he is screaming this horrible noise, snot flying from it nose and it is coming straight for us. I had no time to do anything but dive to the side, my friend dove in the other direction and the crazed goat went between us and straight into the hole, his scream slowly dying out over several seconds.

I looked at my friend and said "lets go home." he agreed and we headed for the truck. As we got to my truck the land owner came out and asked if we had any luck. We told him "no" and asked about the big hole, he said he found it after buying the land and marked it so no one would fall in, he said he gave up trying to figure out how deep it was. My friend gave me a funny look because I had not mentioned the goat. I thought the guy might think we were nuts, but I reluctantly told the story. He said he had never seen anything like that before and he knew it was not his goat as it was tied up to an old transmission out back...............

Went out one morning deer hunting (old enough ro set by myself, not old enough to drive) during muzzle loader season and got in my stand well before daylight. Well, I dozed off for a while before first light. About day light I start waking up, and see a a blurry lump sitting on a tree limb a few yards from me. As it starts to get good light, I slowly turn my head, thinking it was a big coon. Well.... it wasn't a coon. It was a bobcat. We each realized the other was there nearly simultaneously. It screamed, I screamed, and we both jumped down and took off opposite directions. I didn't quit running til I got back to thw truck.
