Got weighted tags for my tow rig yesterday. $575 smackers.
Ouch. 14,000 lbs GCVW. I'm towing a TLB type tractor so I need the weight. $368 of the fee was Highway use tax.
Someone is getting rich, but it ain't me.

Anyone know the penalty for NOT having weighted tags/overweight non commercial load on a flatbed trailer?

Huh, I just renewed mine for 14k, but it was far less.. like in the 200-300 range.

Or was this a new purchase?

I got 18,000 on mine and they were not cheap at all but needed the weight as well using on farm did get a little bit of break buying farm tags though instead of commercial.

my renewal for 13K is $133...can't remember what the first bill was, but it was a good bit higher...

I "think" 13K was the last reasonable rate, then it starts getting much higher, as your 14K attests...

as an additional question to the "penalty" question...haven't I seen somebody mention something like a 10% forgiveness before a fine is given?

Same here... IIRC, the rates /1k# starts ramping steeply after 15K#. HUT just = sales tax that they can't charge on used vehicles... and the "penalties" do exist! I got a $30 fine for not registering the trailer I bought from LoMod within 30 days. Tried explaining it didn't move as I had no tow rig, but you know how DMV likes "to pick at it until it bleeds"! :shaking:
