HVAC inspection?

Had our heatpump replaced in June 13, just got an email from the co. saying the county needed to inspect it for a certificate of occupancy and come inside the house and we need to schedule a day someone can be home. Is this standard procedure w a replacement? I'm concerned the inspector will see some cracks in the foundation and force us to repair that and we're not ready for that expense at this time.
 
Yeah, pretty much. They probably should have done it when the unit was first installed. But the guy that's coming is just a mechanical inspector. All he's concerned about is whatever scope of work was outlined on the permit.

Then again, in Apex? All bets are off.
 
Thanks Shawn, I spoke to someone at the company and they explained that it is standard procedure and needs to happen so they can close out their 13 books. It is not urgent but I'm pretty sure the inspector will need a whole morning or afternoon of our time to meet them and that's an inconvenience.
 
Yea thats normal iirc they have up to a year to have the job inspected but most of the time its shortly after job is done. Also like other post said they should only be looking at scope of work that was involved with unit change out.
 
That's normal. Actually your installer should have pulled a permit when they put the unit in.

Inspector won't be looking at anything but the install and electrical hook up. No worries about the foundation.

Thanks Macdaddy and the rest of the replies. Had an co. tax evaluator come by a year or so ago to "update" our property, found out after walking him around he was actually there to investigate/add an addition I made on our deck to the tax value . I assume they found it w ariel photography. The guy was a real ass and I told him he should just be honest w peeps instead of acting like a detective at a crime scene. I told him a professional had helped me w the deck (fact) and the addition was built better than code, unlike the original 80s one I intend to remove this summer and I had made the addition to freestand when the old one is torn down/rebuilt. I expected a code inspector to come see the deck afterward,but it never happened.
