Hydraulic assist

as far as fluid choice... ive heard to use power steering fluid, or ATF... or i think theres another special one thats even better

but i dont think hydraulic fluid will cut it... itll burn your PS pump up really quick

interesting

I have always been told ATF was hydraulic fluid, with additives like detergent.

Cook's Racing transmissions in SC where I have had many tyranny's built always recommends a hydraulic fluid for his rebuilds.

It is... usually generic hydraulic fluid seems a little thicker though..

well i was talkin to some people at the farm the other week that was saying they tried to use tractor/farm hydraulic fluid in their full hydro system and it was too thick and burned up the pump...

even when running ATF in a normal power steering setup, you can tell its thicker and harder to steer when its cold

as far as how it works in transmissions, idunno.... a thicker fluid might be better for that situation...

Use power steering fluid in a power steering pump. It foams less than the others, doesn't have extra detergents, isn't too thick, and is the same price (unless you buy by the drum).

think of standard hyd. fluid in a power steering pump kinda like 20/50 oil in 10 deg weather in your engine.
