Hydraulic Ram Assist questions

Will be running welded diffs front and rear, factory steering pump, D60 front axle, and 39.5" tires.

I have heard the 1.5" bore rams are not enough, and 2.0" is too much (slow steering). Where is the best place to get a 1.75" x 8" ram, or should I get the 1.5" x 8" ram so that it might not be as hard on my steering pump?

I know it will eventually go out, but I don't really want to spend $400 on a hi-performance steering pump quite yet.

you gonna ride it on the road as a daily driver? if not then 2" is fine its not noticeably slow until you are up to speed like on the highway.
 
I'm running a 2" bore ram and drive it on the road. I drilled out the fitting on the output of the pump to increase the flow, and I think it drives fine. I've read that others who didn't mod the pump (stock Ford) for more flow that it was dangerously slow.

Only problem is, I have heard of people trying to do that to the Toy pump and it made it worse. That is why I am thinking 1.75 would be my best option, but not sure of the best place to get one.

If the 1.5" bore would work fine, I would be OK with it. I don't need a TON of assist, and I actually would prefer speed over power. There hasn't been many times where I have felt I needed ram assist, and I think a 1.5" ram might be just enough for that little bit of extra help.

My main concern is I don't want to hurt the pump, I want whatever cylinder I get to actually MAKE a difference (will a 1.5"?), and I would prefer to not put a ton of pressure on the frame from the cylinder being too small.

I can't have it all I don't guess....

So, 1.5" or 1.75"? I really don't think a 2.0" will work good with the factory pump.
 
From what you describe, IMO, 1.5" bore, 1" rod.

I wouldn't want to go too big with a 44 anyway, you could easily break something trying to move that rock with the tire.
 
Oh yeah, forgot about that...

Well, any assist will be better than none at all.. :)
