Hydro Assist Issues

i recently bought trail gears hydro assist kit, a new ifs box and their 1450psi steering pump kit... i have now been through 2 pumps this month and waiting on my 3rd. would there be a reason why the pumps are going out, (any thing to look for)? and has anyone had any bad/good experience with their pumps?

Do you have a cooler? I would think it is building too much heat, through a restriction or inferior or no cooler, I have had good luck with their pumps. What type of failure are you having?

Heat or air. You may have some cavatiation going on.

ok thanks, yes i am running a cooler. im thinking i will take all the lines off and the cooler and blow them out and look for some kind of
blockage

Another thing to think about is where your external reservoir is mounted in location to the pump. Ideally you want as much fall as possible (reservoir much higher than pump) so the fluid doesn't have to work so hard to get to the pump.

Correct. Your pump does not suck fluid, it pressurizes the fluid coming into it.

How did you know they were bad? Does the pump whine? How does it steer? Can you see bubbles in the res? Does the fluid rise and fall with steering?

To build on the last post, the line from the reservoir to the pump needs to be as straight as possible while not kinking under engine torque. I have seen some toy installs where the hose does not stay fully open with the engine rocking back and forth due to running a 90 degree fitting off the reservoir. My setup on my Nissan is custom but I had to run 45 degree fittings to get the hoses to line up right.
