Looking for ideas/suggestions for setting up a home-made hydro assist. will be using it on dana 44 turning 36 iroks.

what size ram are you using? (bore, stroke)

what size hoses? (diam, length)

what are you using on? (tires, axle, etc)

i've looked at most of the kits out there, but i'm hoping to do it for cheaper than that.

Thanks!

I have a 8" stroke ram...stock gm p pump....Dana 60 with 40" LTBs and it sucks

I've got a 2"x8" tractor supply/Northern Tool style ram with hoses and fitting purchased from there as well. Using 1/4" NPT hoses. Stock Ford pump drilled out for more flow. It is on a D60 with 42" TSL's. It works pretty good, but I'm about ready to jump into full hydro.

Same here, with stock Wrangler steering box, Speedway Motors additional reservoir, turning 42" TSLs on a Dana 60. Works fine for me :huggy:

im running a d44 with 37-12.50 mtr's.
stock saganaw pump
surplus center 8"stroke 1" bore ram.
1/4 npt hoses from northern tool.
overall im very pleased with the setup it's fast, responsive. yet doesnt over power the d44 bal joints.im sure 1.5 bore would be ideal but id rather pick another line and not break knuckels.

I'm running stock jeep/newer Saginaw style pump with stock remote reservoir. Running surpluscenter.com 1.75 8in ram with swivel eyes and 3/8npt hoses the are about 20in long. Astro van box drilled and tapped with a 4x6 inch cooler and napa filter. The box is reverse from standard Saginaw to move the pittman arm to the front but still move correctly and is drilled and tapped 1/4 npt. Got all my fittings, hoses, and ram from surplus center for like$125 or so. The hoses are the 4000psi ones.

It works great for me turning 42" sx2s on beadlocks on a locked 60. The only downfall is the somewhat slow ratio of the astro box. It turns the tires great though I wouldn't change it or I would worry about it being to quick on the road.

Just did mine. X2 on Surplus Center products. 3/8'' hoses w/ fittings from same. If I had to do it over I'd tap my box 1/4'' instead of 1/8'' maybe for quicker response. I'm running 35's on a cj5 d30 w/ high steer. I'm running a 2x6'' stroke cylinder. I don't know what your installing this on but you need to jack up the front end and check how much your tie rod is throwing to determine the stroke you need. I had a throw of 5-1/4'' so I had to go w/ a 6'' stroke cylinder and split the difference when I welded it up. Hope this helps.

I'm running a psc steering box and 1.75x8 psc ram, modified gm pump, an external resevior and cooler, both from a junkyard on a D60 with 39.5 TSLs. Yes the psc parts were expensive, but I'm happy. I had a local shop build me some hoses.
