So, a while back, I bought a Detroit Locker from a buddy. He said it was for a 14 bolt and I figured I could use a spare. A few months go by and I think about selling it, so I check it out.

The cross shaft pins are a smaller diameter, but the entire center section is larger overall than a 14 bolt. I verified by trying to fit it to an empty 14 bolt carrier and measuring 14 bolt spider gears. Also, instead of having 30 spline side gears, these are 16 spline. It IS, however, a lunch box locker, just like a 14 bolt uses. I threw away the box it was in because it had gotten wet and was falling apart...therefore, any part numbers are gone. There aren't any on the unit itself. Also, I had a busted 14 bolt Detroit from my K30 and the side gears WILL interchange, but it obviously still won't fit the carrier.

The axle diameter use for the 16 spline gears appears to be about 1.33". I just eyeballed it with a measuring tape.

Now then, from everything I can find only the 14 bolt, Rockwell, and possibly a very, very old Dana 60, and the Easton axles use a lunch box locker.

I need some more in depth information so I can figure out what this thing is! It's brand new!

Wouldn't happen to have an HO72 carrier or spider gears handy that you could put some calipers on do you? If I can match the cross shaft diameter and the lengths of them, it should be pretty cut and dry.

I was leaning towards an Eaton too since the 14 bolt side gears would swap and I know you can do that and run 14 bolt shafts in them.

No carrier but I do have some shafts.

Everything I can find says an Eaton is 17 spline and it will fit in a 14 Bolt carrier. This one is definitely 16 spline and I verified that it will NOT fit inside a 14 Bolt carrier.

What Detroit No Spin application was 16 spline?! Even with the wealth of knowledge on the internet, this is still proving to be a pain in my arse!

Can't be for a Rockwell, stock (16 spline) axles are 1.63".

There's a listing for a rear Dana 60 in 16 spline, but since it lists a gear split, I'm guessing it's a carrier replacement.

I'm still looking under every rock I can.

Detroit 250S37. Lists it as Eaton Universal....

Think it would help if I posted a pic and some precise dimensions?

Read a few posts back. 1.33" spline diameter. I looked through all of those documents I could find and didn't come up with much.

That's certainly the part number on it, but it has some weird sized axles. Not sure what's up with it.

You said you "eyeballed with a measuring tape" 1.33". Make sure you were measuring the major diameter (outer) of the splines and not the minor. In the case of you measuring the inside of the side gears, you would be measuring from "valley to valley" rather than "peak to peak" of the splines.

I am getting the same thing as him, it's for a medium duty 2 speed Eaton axle.

I measured like you said. I knew the axle measurement would be the OD. I'll grab a pair of calipers from the shop tonight when i get home and measure it more precisely.
