I despise door-to-door salesmen!

I followed my son door to door selling Cub Scout popcorn...he cleaned house, probably sold to over 90% of the houses we hit. People paid cash for a promise to deliver in 2 months, I was shocked. This was not the neighborhood we lived in, but close to his elementary school. He had a good spiel recited, telling where he is from, about his pack, and what/why he's selling.

Don't know if it's the same as back when I was in Boy Scouts, but Trail's End popcorn was awesome stuff. That was a different day of Boy Scouts, though.....

In my area they were coming around trying to sell all different types of stuff, but really looking for dogs to come back and steal to use as "bait dogs" we just started blowing rounds out the door, that seems to get rid of them really quick! !
a tin foil hat and talking about how the government goes through our trash at night works for the jahova witness!

It's sad to say, but I'm skeptical of everyone now days. Unless I know you or the true situation I'm on my toes until proven otherwise. People are f@$%ed up, and I'm gonna assume you're one of those people. It's tough for an honest salesman with guys like myself, but I'd rather play it safe.

The dudes riding around in the mini-truck with the freezer in the back selling meat ....... :kaioken::sniper:

Matt

IDK I actually flagged one down one time just to get a good deal on some good meat.:p They usually come to my house and tell me they live hours away and don't want to take it home. I've got some smoking deals by negotiating and the meat was better than I have gotten anywhere.

I don't need/want any adult stranger trying to sell me anything on my front porch and have/will never buy anything from them. I know what I want and where/how to get it. I will and have bought stuff from kids accompanied by their parents but haven't seen that in years. Much more affluent neighborhoods closer to town.

So that's where my goats went.....

...you mean you ate more than you sold ?:D.................I seem to remember some that was better than CrackerJack.

Always been very nice to them and talk to them and act interested.. I let them do their entire spiel , I asked questions, and lead them on.

When it's time to close up with the brakes on with excuses like it's a tight month maybe next paycheck etc.

We then schedule appointment for them to come back next week or two weeks. I just repeat the performance.

I once had an ADT guy come by my house every other week for almost a year. Then I borrowed the neighbors security sign from a different company and stuck it in my lawn when he showed up next ;)

So you wasted a complete stranger's time and money and tried to cost him his job?
Congratulations!

That do unto other things...

My Uncle calls that guy the Ass Meat Man. :D

I tell Jehovah's witnesses to come in we're about to sacrifice a goat, and you can draw the pentigram on the floor.

You can't be serious, I hated that crap. I was talking with one of my friends who was in Boy Scouts with me and we were laughing about how no one ever wanted to buy our popcorn. He has a girl and he was joking about how lucky he was that he was going top get Girl Scout cookies while my boys would be bringing me that nasty popcorn.

Our Scout Pack sells the popcorn.
Yes it is good, but is WAAAY overpriced. FYI you can buy the popcorn made by the same company @WalMart for about 1/3 the price.
Most people buy it just to support the scouts, we have a lot of folks that just hand us cash and say, keep the popcorn. I don't buy any myself.

I don't make him do the door-to-door thing, although in our neighborhood I'm sure it'd be fine. Instead, our Pack gets a bunch up front, and set up stands outside of the local Wawa or other stores. They clean up that way.

Ron,

I guess we both see that from different angles…. I see it as:

Not a total waste of time, a quality conversations talked about weather talked about families learned where they're from and how they got to the point to be a door-to-door salesman…

I'm not wasting their time and their money and costing them their jobs, they need to take their own responsibility in evaluating my sincerity and determine if it's worth coming back.

I admit I've never been in door-to-door sales except for school fundraiser when I was kid. I Always make the choice to have something with a constant salary rather than working on commission ( with the exception of those years in college when I delivered pizzas).

If you believe in karma and what comes around goes around then maybe one day that karma will run over my dogma.

I worked for Home Depot At Home Services for about 6 months selling replacement windows, siding, roofing and gutters. 100% commission. No fuel mileage reimbursement, no expenses paid, etc. You sell or you don't eat. I was "promised" that if I worked for 3 months like this I would be promoted to a sales manager with a team of commissioned sales people under me. If it hadn't been for that "promise", I would never have taken the job. 6 months later, the "promise" was never fulfilled and I was onto my next job.

Worst part of it was when I hired on, gas was under $2 a gallon and hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit causing gas to shoot to over $4 a gallon. When you have $10-20 invested in a sales call just getting to the door, you have a tendency to get a little pissed when people want to just waste your time.

I was told that a "good" salesman in the industry had a closing ratio of about 20%. Which means on average, for every sale you make, you go on 4 wasted calls.
