went out to dinner, then WAS going back to the house to do nothing for a change.
When we went out to the car, started it up...but it wouldn't go into gear. (2005 Mercury Montego) Quick search of the internet on my phone said it was probably the brake/transmission interlock switch. About reached my frustraition point just figuring out how to get the console apart to hit the release button. Did that, and didn't work. Luckily, I had a small handfull of tools with me, cause I'd just gone earlier to rescue my wife's car.
From there....
Pulled brake switch, metered it, it was bad. Was right in front of an advance auto, they didn't have one in stock, but the one across town did. But they closed in 5 minutes. O'reillys and Autozone are open until 10, but neither one had one on hand...
Went into the grocery store, and asked for a paperclip. That was an ordeal itself...I think they they thought I was running some sort of a scam on them. Finally got one. Shorted the brake light switch wires, car started to crank, but died. Checked fuses....brake circuit blown. Swapped it for another fuse, blew again.
Pulled apart LH tail light, it was fine. Pulled LH assembly...full of water. Unplugged all the connections, shook water out...not dry enough....blew another fuse. Stole another fuse from another circuit...radio I think. Blew and shook out connectors....finally got it to start and run.
Made it home 2.5 hours later, one brake light housing in the trunk, and other brake light shorted 'on' with the paperclip. So much for Friday night.
