Last move, we came up to MD from NC... all in 1 swoop. Paid a moving co, they packed, loaded everything. That was soo awesome. (also paid for by new job)
This time, we bought a house 4 mi down the road.
Figured, ah, thsi will be easy... we allowed ourselves like 2 weeks overlap between closing and ending the lease... just took a little bit over to the new place each day.
Well now we're up to the main "move", tomorrow (Sat) and spend all last few days packing + finishing up stuff @ the new place... and of course till wokring 9 hr shifts/
and i'm already worn out and haven't even started loading a truck yet.
I'm never "doing it myself" again. What a pain. How did we end up w/ so much stuff? I moved every year for 6 years straight in college/early grad school. somewhere along the line we got soft.
and I shutter to think, now we're moving into a place > 50% bigger, and plan to bee there many years, can't fathom how the NEXT one will be!

You should get in on the push-ups program...all the cool kids are doing it. Stop talking gigabites and kilodots and junk.:flipoff2:

I know how you feel. I am fixing to move down to ATL. I don't have NEARLY as much stuff as you do, but it seems like a lot!

But like your move to MD, the company is going to take care of me so I'm going to have movers pack and unpack the truck. It is pretty nice when I now don't have to worry about moving my pull-out bed couch and my heavy ass TV. Oh, the little fridge ain't light neither.

The hardest move we've ever done was from a 3rd floor apartment, across the parking lot, and into another 3rd floor apartment. We didn't pack, figured we could just carry everything; bad idea!
Thankfully the last 2 times we've moved it has been covered by the company, so I just sat around and watched the movers move my stuff.

When we put my uncle in assisted living, we had a moving company move all his furniture and stuff from Rocky Mount to Sanford. Three men all day, 200 miles of driving, and they had to unload in three different locations once they got here.

All that for just shy of $1200...cheaper than I expected, and waaaay easier than renting a truck and doing it myself.

Wow, it was just shy if 6gs for them to move our asses up here.
That included packing our stuff 9like literaly, they put everything in boxes), loadin and unloading. We opted to do our own unpacking. Oh and transporting my car, seems liek that was a good 500 of it.

The paid-packing deal is just weird. 3 days before the move day, everything in hosue looked just liek it always dis (a mess of course, lol).
2 old black dudes (one of them looked to be at least 65) showed up, and in about 6 hrs had literally put everything we owned in some sort of box. They are FAST - but clearly the key is, they don't give a $hit about thematic organization, getting like things in like boxes... they literally pack things as they are, where they are. Everything in a drawer, goes in the same box. Two items sitting beside each onther in teh room... whatever they are, they'll be in te hsame box. Got trash in your trash can? it'll be there waiting for you when you unwrap it lol. They just don't care.
Craziest thing was watching the guy use tape. No knife, no tape roller thingy... just a rool. he'd leay it down on teh box, when it got to the end to "cut, he'd just karate-chop w/ his hand and break it! Then just slap it down. Over nad over and over again.

So while that it really cool and all, te hdownside is... you get to where you're going and you can't find anything... just 12 boxes labeled "living room" lol. Wife said it was like Christmas all day for 3 days opening boxes...

Oh, and when you move, stay at one place and have a friend stay at the other...ARMED.

When my family moved, our old house got hit. Most of the stuff had been moved out but not all of it. Whatever we left, they took. Fortunately the safe had been cleared out because they brought in a safe guy to open it. Kinda weird seeing your safe just wide open with chalk marks on the front door...

When I moved here to NC in 1990, everything I had fit in the trunk and backseat of a 71 Camaro!

Getting ready to make a move myself ,its just about a mile down the road but man I am dreading it!

New house comes with a shop so I am pretty happy about that!
