I have a new hatred for Ohio

You could probably contact a lawyer local to the incident and have it taken care of without having to travel.

Sent while I should have been doing something constructive...

...and that lawyer would cost what, in comparison to the relatively small fine?

but then I guess the question is, do you spite the state enough to deny then the $$ even if it means paying more to some lawyer... picking between two evils on that one

First things first.... so far, the court has been closed for the past two days due to the weather, so I can't even find out how much the fine is. That SHOULD tell you something. If the roads are so bad that they shut down all the government buildings in the area, they should have a reasonable expectation that wrecks are going to occur.

I think my threshold amount is about a $25 fine. Much more than that, and I'll be weighing my options (i.e. taking the risk of not paying it altogether, waiting until the next time I have to drive through Ohio to pay it, contacting a lawyer, etc.)

Pretty sure that both of these options will involve going straight to jail w/o passing GO! and not collecting $200... at least sooner or later. Option #2 probably when you show up at the Magistrate's Office to pay the two year old fine...

^^ I'm w/ the bald fat happy guy on this one.
IMO the only thing that would make it worth that kinds of risk is if it were a huge chunk of change (>$800). I mean why would you put yourself in a potentially bad situation for a few hundred dollars?
And at that point, it'd be worth the cost to get a lawyer to show up in your place just to give them the :flipoff:.

Never call the crooks unless its an insurance claim. Police in America do nothing when you call them but fuck you.

I can't fathom why you called them to delay your trip further. He probably wrote the ticket cause he was pissed he got called out for that. ( that's what I woulda done )

Just saying

Since this was an accident technically followed by a ticket, I'd probably not be so worried about the fine but rather the points and subsequent insurance rates impact (even though you don't have a claim, this will be found). Since calling the cops to get a report resulted in this fiasco, I am NOT advocating calling your insurance guy to see what he thinks. Don't know how to get that info, but spending $350 on a lawyer up there to get things either reduced or tossed could save you multiples of that over the next few years on insurance. I'd definitely try to figure this out before I paid a fine even if only $25. My guess is the fine will be the least of your concerns. I go through this each time my wife gets pulled over for speeding in NC. I pay the attorney $350 for making the speeding become improper equipment (never understood this, other than improper use the the skinny peddle) and it all goes away. If she pays the $100 fine for the ticket, insurance rapes my arse for the next 3 years.

The last time I had a ticket (which was the first in 10+ years) I hired a lawyer in the county, it cost $50 for her to plea the case to improper equipment with no points. The fine was $25, the court costs were $190...
