I just need to bitch about my luck

I've never had the best luck. Early in my wheeling hobby I was always the guy to break down on the easiest of things. My luck is something I've grown accustomed to. However, this has nothing to do with wheeling. Just life.

Anyway, my wife and I both graduated from Tennessee. We're big fans and football season is our favorite time of year. We bought mini-packs this year which gave us 3 games of our choice. Well, I decided to pick Florida as our first game. Better than Alabama I'd say. At least we have a chance.

Fast forward and the game is this Saturday. Come to find out the plant manager has asked that I work a special project this weekend... on Saturday specifically. There's no way I can work it and make the game. I guess it's cool I got asked to work the project but at the same time I told him specifically about my plans ahead of time. He probably doesn't care because he's not going to miss his game and he's an Auburn fan. The icing on the cake is that College Game Day is coming to UT. They haven't been to Knoxville in 10 years and the one year they show back up I'm gonna miss it both on TV and at the game.

FML :(

Nobody else can fill in for you??....... You must be damn good!!
they say I am. my job has evolved over the last 5 years. i do a lot of "special" projects. what really sucks is that I can't put any of it on my resume.

yea, I know.. white people problems

that sucks man, but as a fellow Auburn alum/fan, i have to side with your boss on this one. that'll teach you to be a damn dirty vol fan! lol, j/k

i know what you mean about white people problems........my job is always getting in the way of me doing shit, or making me do shit when i dont want to do shit. my bronco would be drivable if i didnt have to come to this dump 40 hours a week. uggh, i dont know why i feel that i need to be a contributing member to society.

the bad thing is I'm constantly putting in over 40. oh well, looks like my mom will have a good birthday gift coming her way. she's never been to a game so why not give her the best situation to see a game. that place is going to be ridiculous!

I've always had one of two problems.... working so much that I didn't have time to put into my projects, but a surplus of money as a result - or (as in my current state), unemployed where I have all the time in the world to sit and stare at my project which is currently on jack-stands in the back yard with no money to put into it.

been there done that, that's why i wasted weeks scrubbing my POS 2.9 liter engine down with degreaser. i couldnt afford to rebuild it, but i had a bunch of time to remove all the wires and label them and let it soak lol.

now i'm sort of in the middle though. i have this damn job i spend all my time at, but the pay is so shitty i still cant afford to do much.

The sooner you realize that there's no such thing as "luck", the better off you'll be.

I just get the impression from reading your original post that you act like there's some black cloud hanging over you. That everything you do is potentially tainted by it, and everything that goes wrong can be blamed on it.

Why's the cloud gotta be black?

it doesn't hang. it justs comes and visits at inopportune moments. I call it luck. you roll the dice and see what happens.

if I did a bad job and I was fired I wouldn't call that bad luck. i'd call that justified. if I have no control of the situation (to a degree) and something happens that's how I define it.

find a new boss. Having one that doesn't care about your time off that was scheduled ahead of time is a POS, imo...

Take your time off and go to the game. If he balks, and if you are that good, they will be fine...

I'm slowly working on an out. I'm starting a business but it's not a hurry and take flight kind. it'll take a few years to really gain momentum. then it again it may fail and I'm still working here.
