Just met 3 trucks on nc-42 carrying concrete beams for the new bridge over the deep river.

They were BACKING from us-1 to the river, about 10 miles. I talked to a gal driving a flag car. She said they (engineers, permit folks, whoever) made them do it that way.

Beams aren't that long, and there are plenty of places to turn around. And lesser used roads that are shorter, just as wide, and straighter.

I met 3 just like this

This has to be a government run operation

At a bare minimum put the truck in neutral hook a truck and a chain up and drag that whole shooting match. For God's sake dont give the driver neck strain.

I just came back out to the house. Last truck was up to the 42/Pickard Road intersection, so it made 2.2 miles in 2-1/2 hours.

Here is the google traffic map for this cluster:

Maybe because it was the way that they had to unload them? But it's hard to believe that there was NO turn around any closer?

Or that giant intersection at plank rd.

That's the one I was looking at. They should have been able to turn around there, especially with pilot cars to stop traffic.

I'm waiting for somebody to come along and drop some knowledge on us....

Wife was home but I guess she missed the giant truck driving in reverse in front of the house.

DOT route planners are stupid. I got 3 cranes last year from Edwards. DOT routed 2 of them down the dead end road by work. DOT dead ended the road, it's on their maps, and they still sent them down it. 2 trucks full of rigging and counter weights along with a crane towing a truck were a lot of fun to get backed up the road.
