This morning I spent a few minutes on the.
I called my U.S. Senators, Kay Hagan and Richard Burr, my U.S. Representative Howard Coble, my N.C. Representative, Pricey Harrison, my N.C. Senator, Don Vaughn and N.C. Governor Bev Perdue.
In all cases I did not speak to the official, I spoke with an aide. Most of them have environmental/land use aides that you will speak with.
Of the six aides I spoke with, only two were aware of the Tellico issue or had recieved calls about it!
Please! Go here: http://www.votesmart.org/
Put in your zip+4, find the phone numbers and make the calls!
It's easy, takes only a couple of minutes and they are glad to talk to you!
Here's what to say, if you haven't made up your own speech
I am concerned that the U.S. Forest Service has decided to close access to the Upper Tellico OHV Area out side of Murphy,N.C. They are doing this to take the easy way out of their mis-management of the area over the last 29 years by using "old science" and questionable manipulation of data instead of working with the OHV community to repair and correct the deficiencies.
This decision not only denies me access to pulic land I have worked on and ridden on for years but these closures will have a "significant economic impact" of multiple millions of dollars on the Murphy, N.C. area which depends heavily on tourism revenue.
