(Posting this in general so more folks will see it sooner - our workday is moved up to this weekend.)

Our Scout troop is building an outdoor chapel at our church in memory of one of our leaders.

I am needing 36" of 8" square tube that will be set in the concrete floor and serve as a socket of sorts to hold a wood cross we are building.

Anybody got something along these lines?

Also....looking for about 2' or so of 8-inch or so diameter aluminum or SS tube for the same project. I used to have a piece of aluminum pipe, but can't find it now.

This is what we are doing...cross will be made from 6x6 timbers, you can see a pc of rebar sticking out of the ground in the center of the circle, that's where the cross goes. We are doing an exposed aggregate concrete floor, and stone veneer on the wall.

Are you a leader there? We were thinking of getting my oldest son into scouting. I live down the road seven minutes if I knew you guys were out there I would have lended a hand.

Yeah, I'm chairman of the troop committee. I've been around it since forever, was Scoutmaster back in the mid-80s to 93 or so. I am more of a has-been than a gonna-be at this point.

We have a very active troop, have really grown in the past few years -- we took in 11 new Scouts from our cub pack last spring. We did two separate summer camps this year, 23 Scouts went the first week, then 15 a few weeks later (some kids did both weeks...I think we have about 30 Scouts total right now). Our Scoutmaster might be down your way, he lives off of Stanton Hill Road in Cameron. You are welcome to come and visit us sometime. I'll PM you the details on when and where we meet.

We are pouring the floor on Saturday -- I've done plenty of concrete, but this is my first with exposed aggregate (seeded). We are forming up starting at noon on Friday, pouring first thing Saturday morning.

BTW...2012 is the 75th anniversary of our troop. It was started in 1937. We are having a celebration at the church on Sept. 23rd -- and planning to dedicated the (completed) chapel at that time. Check out our website (work in progress) at www.troop942.net

Rather than trying to find such a large square tube, might you have better luck essentially "making" the piece by welding (or bending AL) separate sheets together?
