Ive got a 94 ZJ lifted 6 inches with adjustable control arms stock axles and blown stock 4.0 do to no oil pressure. I want some more power out of the 4.0. Ive looked into doing a stroker kit and stroking it to a 4.6 or just rebuild the 4.0 an add a bigger cam port and polish exhaust and intake. Im trying to stay in somewhat of a budget? This is a first for me so any input will help.

When i built my stroker, it cost about $300 more in parts than just re-building a stock 4.0

Tw89yj could you send me a list of what all you have done to yours? Im interested. I talked to comp can today and they told me I had to have a special cam grind for stock 4.0 is this true?

No you certainly do not need a special ground cam. I have built strokers with somewhat wild cam profiles and also with bone stock cams as well. It all depends on application and related parts.

Motor in jeep is all stock and its lifted 6 inches I mainly pull a boat but the jeep does see some mud and trails what would you recommend I should do as of right now I've got 1200 into motor not counting the cam. This is a first for me

Ive looked into the v8 swap and I'm just not up to going to a 5.2 or 5.9 they don't produce much more HP or torque versus the 4.0 with the right parts. I've had both v8s and this is my second 4.0

If it were me, I'd look into a cheap stock replacement engine and then do a gear swap to make up the difference. Regardless of engine performance, you'll need better gearing as well.

I have a 88 xj and put a HO 4.0 with 01 intake and MSD with 4.56s and 35s it will burn the wheels right off the tires... with a locker. stock 4.0 rips dude. I put my $ into gears and love the payoff!
