hmmm, never seen it done with pipe, and it looks kind of stupid to me, my .02.
The spacing will depend on how long you can find runners, 8-10 ft. Remember 10ft running up/downhill will set the posts less than 10 ft apart.
I helped my buddy build his fence, I think we used 1/2 bag concrete for each post, maybe a whole bag for the corners, set down 2ft or so. Rented a bobcat with auger, fawk the post hole digger.
I've paid someone else to do it twice at my own houses, but we were talking way more than 50ft.
 
I built one last summer, used 4x4 post spaced 8ft apart, 6x6s in the corners. only used concrete for the cornerposts. I laid the 2x4s sideways horizontal instead of vertical for a little extra strength. The gate was the fun part. I also painted the bottom of the posts that would be underground with black tar so moisture wouldnt rot them off. IIRC it ended up being roughly 170 linear feet, turned out nice though.
