I need some shock advise

This might sound like a newbie question but

I have noticed a bunch of pics on here where you guys have the boot part of the shock mounted on the upper shock mount

I have always mounted shocks with the boot part at the bottom

Is there any advantages or disadvantages of mounting them with the boot part up?

and vise versa with the boot part down?

some brands will allow you to run them either way...some won't...

on a TJ, people flip the rear to keep the "can" portion away from the lower spring perch...
