ight so im 15 and ive got an 01 ram 1500 4x4 and i want to have it ready for offroading when i turn 16 and get my license. im looking at the rough country 5 inch lift and i want at least some 35 in tires i would like some suggestions on if i should get this lift or a better one and also what kind or tires look great but are also great on and offroad and get decent mileage... some pics would be great too, thanks

Keep it stock height, put some better tires on it and start wheeling. The lift and 35s will do nothing but get you stuck and drink more gas. Learn to drive first, then add a locker and body armor. Once you are better at driving offroad, you will know what you need.

I can take my toyota on 31s more places than 90% of the lifted trucks on the road right now. It is all about driving skill.

I'm not sure what your truck will clear with the lift you asked about. Do some research and see what the minimum lift will be to run 35's. 35's on your truck will look good. As far as what tire, there are many to choose from. I first choice would be MTR's, followed closely by BFG MT's or AT's. If you are on more of a budget, I also like the Buckshot Maxis Mudders. You will most likely find yourself in a situation that you can't go forward or backward, in other words stuck. Add a winch into your plans. A Smitty Built, or a VR Warn series will do you well. I would go with the 10K as far as size.
Welcome to the world of wheeling! It's addictive to say the least. Listen and read through the many many posts on this board and you will learn a lot, but your best teacher will be experience in the real world. Make some friends, and follow them around a while and learn!

My 2 cents, you can clear a 33 stock on that truck or a 35 with a 2 inch leveling kit and some minor fender triming. Start with one of those and get some new shocks your truck probably already needs them. Learn to wheel then when it's time to jack it up, with a 5 of 6 in lift you should be able to clear at least 36's closer to 37's with some triming and a set of wheels with the correct backspacing.
edit: Mac5005 I retract my previous statement, I've honestly never heard a more impressive statement about rough county and warranty/customer service should always be considered during a build. I still think he could stay low on 35's but I wouldn't count out the rc 5"

There is absolutely nothing wrong with rough country. I've personally had several of their lifts on several different vehicles, and all were great. On both, my yj and suburban, they both rode 10 times better after the lift install, than prior. Their company stands behind the stuff as well. I broke a spring on the yj, called them up, and 4 new packs were on the way at no cost. Their lifetime warranty means just as its stated. Had a couple shocks leak oil after 6 years of hard use, called them up, and new ones were on the porch by the end of the week. The broken yj pack was a result of 6 years and 60k miles as a DD, and then two trips around rocky mountain loop at uwharrie in the race, when the driver front main leaf gave up. I would recommend rough country over 90% of the bigger name more expensive companies based on ride quality alone, not to mention warranty issues.
