I Never Called Him by His Name

I saw him and friends Under the street bar. He killed show, stomping his boots and singing . Lots of smoke most weed. Funny, the line to go in to bar was long. David was sitting on Bus bench with his hat and leather rhinestones, cowboy boots. The Duke peeps didn't know he was !

Saw him in 2019 was kinda sad
He couldn't walk out without help and sat in the the whole time. But I am glad I got to see him.

He's been declining for a while. Hate to see him go.

Saw him back in college at some place in Wake forest. Put on a heck of a show and played all his hits. Apparently during that time period we caught one of the better ones. I had heard that if he wasnt feeling it or the crowd vibe was off he would play a few covers and dip out. Apparently we were rowdy enough he gave us the good stuff.

1996 at I believe was the palomino club in Charlotte. I had a fake id. Very Smokey that night. My friend and I went to the bathroom towards the end of the show. We noticed a lot of blood going towards the door. Went inside to find one biker helping another that had his forehead sliced open by a beer bottle. He was screaming about going back out there to kill the guy. We used the bathroom and left. Good time though. Still remember putting cassette tapes in trucks and partying at a local pond. Now we have Bluetooth and still hear him on playlists partying at my pond. He lived a long life for an outlaw.

Saw him in 95 or 96 play the Winthrop coliseum in rock hill with confederate railroad.

After the show we went to the long branch - only country bar in rock hill back then and drank and shot pool….about an hour later COE and Danny Shirley walked in in jeans and t shirts with ball caps low. Shot a few games drains few and dipped out basically unnoticed.

I say him at Club La Vela in Panama City Beach 1996. When I was station at Tyndall AFB

I dont know how I forgot this - but the autograph photo just reminded me!

My BIL was a huge DAC fan. He had moved up to Ohio with his mom his junior year of high school. DAC played a small bar show near their hometown. He wanted to go but bar was 21+ only. Somehow his mom knew someone, somehow got word and got permission from the band to bring him in. As I understand this was a ~100 person crowd in a rough biker bar. Saw the show and DAC autographed Bubba's cowboy hat. He would have been 15 or 16 at the time. When Bubba passed in '07 that hat came to me. I still have it...dusty, sig has faded a bit...but still cool as hell.

Stationed in Oklahoma and I got to know some of the guys in the barracks I lived in. One weekend we were planning to head up to OKC for the night and dooder said I’m bringing a buddy from my work. Cool. We are all white and this black guy shows up at the truck. Let’s go. We head up the highway and jamming to XYZ country with a beer cooler situated directly out the slider glass of the 4 door pickup we are riding in. Black guy says we need to turn this shit to “real country” and hands a CD from the backseat forward. Pop it in. It is a burnt copy of the Black Album IYKYK. I learned very quickly that racism had no place in the truck for a while different set of reasons. He was the most down to earth dooder I ever met.

That reminded me of when I was at the Myrtle Beach Jeep Jam 3 years ago and they played If That Ain't Country over the PA system and there were black people everywhere. I didn't hear anything about anyone offended. Maybe DAC had the N word pass

I saw him at the Iron Horse at Bike Week several years ago. He had his wig but could still stand and get around. He did a good show and I was really glad to get to see him.

Never got to see him but have rocked to his tunes for as long as I can recall.

Sad to see another legend go. I can’t imagine the same levity for most of today’s “music” people.

It’s true, they don’t make them like they used to.

RIP DAC!

Lay me down some rails, boys!
