As a thanks heres some pics of the store along the way for those who have asked/ pm'ed me . It is H&B Ace hardware in Eden NC , if you are nearby come say hi!

This brings us up to date. We bought the store July 31st of 2020 and the last ten months have been a blur of projects. We have done most of the work ourselves , with the exception of the new exterior walls in the rearwards expansion. Now that this one is finished we are working on securing the second location to start the fun all over again!

Never been to Eden, but when I go I know where my first stop will be!

If you find yourself this way hollar at me beforehand and I will do my best to be around. I am still working my full time job on top of all this .

I think the alternative financing was mentioned here? https://nc4x4.com/forum/threads/lumber-prices-and-alternatives.198856/post-1844399

Congrats on the store! I can only imagine how much work, stress, and diligence opening a business like that entails. I worked at Ace Hardware for a year or two while in school - good times. Best of luck!
Thanks so much that is exactly what I was looking for . I have been in Hardware my whole life , but this is the first time as an owner.

Excellent selection of fasteners. A lot of stainless. You had exactly what I needed. A big $3 sale. Next time you have an event, please post it here. I don't have a clue to what's going on in the community.

Great looking shop, people in Eden are lucky to have it! I really like the old photos in the windows!

Looks great, I can't imagine how stressful this has been over the last year!

That looks like an awesome Ace. Congrats!

I love seeing real hardware stores up and in action. So much better than the big box places.

We go through Eden sometimes when going back to JoCo, we call that the “northern scenic route”. I will stop next time I’m through there.

We announce everything on the Facebook page , and we sent out 15,000 flyers as well . Sorry you missed out on the circus , but I will try and remember to add it here as well . The fasteners aisle is my baby as I was tired of going all over the county to find what I needed. If housewares doesnt take off by the end of the year theres a strong chance I will double the nuts and bolts section.

Thanks we are humbled by the opportunity to serve our neighbors and friends. The window graphics were designed by my wife and I , look at my profile pic for a reference. It has been a bit stressful at times , but this is my 148th project so it wasn't terrible overall.

That looks like an awesome Ace. Congrats!
Thanks , it took me 148 tries to get it mostly right! I am still tweaking it every weekend that I am there.

Our store has 10,000 sf of retail area and 27'000 sf of back room / warehouse that is fully stocked. There is also a 50x100 lumber shed as well . We sell house packages weekly and have a full kitchen design area / commercial Benjamin Moore paint center up front. We can cover 90% of what Lowes has and with our outdoor lawn and garden area coming online this Fall we intend to narrow that gap even more. We run everything at suggested retail that is shopped by Ace against Lowes and Depot every week as we dont want to give folks a reason to go elsewhere. Your mileage may vary as each individual Ace sets their own price levels.

Looks great.
Thanks!

Let me know the next time you are hitting the scenic route , would love to check out the Rubicon.

As an update we turned a profit in year two! We are adding a barn to the side of the building to add more space for Lawn and Garden which will allow us to double our nuts and bolts which should be the largest open to the public nuts and bolts display in NC. We are adding another aisle for plumbing , another aisle for BBQ / outdoor living and another aisle for outdoor power. And just to add to the fun we are buying the True Value Hardware store in Danville VA which we will remodel over the coming year.

Quoted because... yeah

Any way, that's awesome. A good hardware selection is hard to find locally. When we got a TSC in town it was a game changer.
TSC has on average 40' of bolts in mostly larger sizes to suit their demographic of farmers/tractor folks. We have 96' feet now and our new display will be 168' . Left handed metric in various pitches , furniture bolts , elevator bolts , all kinds of crazy stuff.

This will be extremely welcome. As on right now, I have to either go to Y&W in Madison or Northwest Ace in Ridgeway. Your place is much closer to me than either.

If you're going to that specialized, I'd suggest you setup an online store. Left handed metric bolts are super cool and you will sell 1 a year over the counter. You're going to have a lot of stale inventory. But there are people all over the country who need them, so if you can ship out at a reasonable cost your turnover will be reasonable.
The problem of course is then you're competing against McMaster-Carr and such.

I would absolutely LOVE to have a fastener selection like that in my own county, especially when I need something for work, but frankly I'd still only be in there 10 times a year.
