I can't think of a more appropriate song for my grandfather passing last night. For a man that would do anything for anyone. One hell of a fisherman and hunter. The man that could do and build anything. I feel like a piece of me died as well. RIP Pappy

Sorry for your loss!
He sounds similar to my papaw that was the best role model I’ve ever had. In my eyes he could do no wrong and tought me many life lessons that I hold near and dear to my heart today. The funniest thing I remember from him that I’m reminded of anytime someone gets burned, stung, ear ache, jellyfish sting, cut, bruised, or any other injuries is come here boy, let me piss on it.

The one liner I'll always remember, is going in the bathroom after him and it smelling like hell. I told him how bad it smelled. He said "boy, I didn't go in there to sit and think, I came to shit and stink". I cracked up

My Grandparents where my first hero's. Praying for you and your family. One of my biggest shoes to fill where my Paw paws...the other my Dads. Glad you had the connection the world needs more just like it.

Papaw liked peaches and everytime we went to the beach we brought him back peahes. The sight or mention of peaches brings that all back.

Hate it for you Man..Prayers to your Family.

Sorry for your loss. I felt the same about my grandfather. Like you I'm sure, I could only hope to be as great as he was .

Sounds like you had the pleasure of knowing a great man. I feel for your loss, but remember the great things you gained from your fortune of knowing such a man.

now you know why I go east to 'visit them', and invite friends; mainly because Im so proud of my grandparents. according to the county, they're buried in some damn hole in Nashville NC. I say hes right there with me when I hit the back steps, and Grannys there in the kitchen making entirely too much food. He taught me to be a man. Dad would coddle me to some extent and hed say get up you wining little thing and get back to work- probably starting around 6 years old, stacking wood, straightening nails or shelling peas. he had no patience for lack of work ethic, especially if the sun was up. but when it was wraslin' time on tv it was 'time out' for 30 minutes or so. Learned to drive a tractor at the age of maybe 8 in his lap. wouldn't trade that memory for anything. he saw me kill my first thing, (woodpecker beating on the house) with one shot out of a red ryder, got the nod of approval as I didn't damage the house. every time I do something that is difficult or downright sucky I remember that old man walked those fields behind a mule in the misery of summer and maybe complained (a lot?), but he still did it. gets me through most tasks I don't want to do; but I sack up just on the thought of him doing that.
the best part is your kids got to know him. now try not to kill your brother at the funeral but if you do, have April call me for bail $$ and bring the body to the swamp... I'll set out a chain and some cinderblocks. you know where the johnboat is.
