Before the time comes I wanna have a replacement, for this old chevy 1/2ton k10.

What are my all my options. I know about the 12/14 bolts ( being I can find one for the right price)

Trucks getting used mostly hauling, mulch, rock, and everything between, while I work on getting this 22r built.

It'd be a good time to justify swapping in some 3/4 tons or you could just change the carrier and put in a limited slip or a locker. I just replaced the G80 in the AAM 11.5 I have in the rear of my Silverado. My axle is particularly easy, but the basic idea is the same.

I don't even think my g80 is working. The other day I was in 2wd, hubs unlocked, come around behind the house (it's flat ground). Go to pop up onto the drive way to park. Can't be but a couple inches from the ground to the top of the drive way. Passenger side rear just kept spinning drivers side didn't even move or make any marks on the ground. I had to backup a tad and do a lil run and go bounce.

You usually have to gun it a bit to get it to lock, but it does sound like the clutches for the limited slip unit are probably worn out.

You could do a 9.5" 14-bolt to keep your lug pattern, build a D60 with 6-lug hubs, or just go all out and change it all over. You can also keep the 10-bolt and just switch to a helical limited slip or a lunchbox locker.

what years have the open carrier 10 bolts, there's @ least 10 or more sitting at a the yard.

The Gov-Lock has been offered every year since 1973 in GM light trucks. The 10-bolt showed up in 1982, and the majority of 1/2 tons have it, except ones with the high GVW package and some W/T stripper models with the 9.5" 14-bolt Semi-Float.

Check the glove box sticker and look for the G80 code. If it does not have it, then it should be open.
