Hi everyone. I just moved here about 8 months ago from Phoenix I'm in Hendersonville. Out in AZ we wheeled tons. Seemed like a group ride twice a month. Moving here I didn't know what to expect. I was checking out forums and didn't see too much. I'm just really surprised how little wheeling is done out here. Am I missing something? I would like to wheel but I like to test the limits of my Jeep. Most of the jeeps I see here are really pretty.

I've checked out some clubs but whoa the list of rules!! I just want to go out with a group of great people and then make a bonfire and drink some brews.

I would like some help on finding a right group of people.

A little on the wheeling out here as well thx.

Welcome to NC! Our local club (Trailjammers Jeep Club) meets every Wednesday around 5 or 5:30 at Neo Burrito in Biltmore Park. There is a lot of us around the Asheville/ Hendersonville area.
My shop is in Fletcher too if you wanna stop by sometime.

Hey man, Im in Hendersonville also, About 4 of us here in Hendo wheel.Give me a call will get together. 828-779-4221 name is Dustin

Eastern NC is even worse. Nothing out here is legal to wheel. It's all power lines and national forest. If I ever come across a large amount of money, I'm going to buy as much land as I can.

welcome to NC.

Yea your gonna be really disappointed at the overall amount of area you can wheel here, especially in eastern NC :(

You better be ready to spend some windshield time if u wanna wheel around here. The flats is probably gonna be the closet for you.Your rig will dictate what youll wanna ride, west coast rigs don't always do good on the east coast.I was in AZ last summer, didnt see much mud out there.

Compared to where you came from we pretty much have nothing to offer you lol. However, if your rig is up for the trip, you can head west to Tennessee and Kentucky and find much more. I wheel Uwharrie national forest as my local spot. Not much to challenge but its a beautiful, quite place with about 12-13 miles of trails. I save up to travel 4+ hours away to do real good wheeling for several days a few times a year. I'm heading back to Harlan, KY in May. It's a 6 hour drive, but it's worth it for 4 days of wheeling. I did it last year, and I can go this time and not hit the same trail as last time and I still won't see it all. Search black mountain off road park in Harlan county KY.

Windrock OHV in TN.
Ivy Branch OHV in West VA
Gulches OHV in Laurens, SC
Uwharrie National Forest in Troy, NC
The Flats in Marion, NC.

If your used to dry, red AZ then the drastic change of green, mountain terrain will probably blow you away out in KY. Just be prepared for the terrible humidity.

Not to mention the mud/moss covered rocks, and in the fall all the leaves that cover the trails.and oh yeah the mosquitos too.

^^^true story. Try to wheel with someone with a half blown up rig that burns oil lol

The terrain is totally different. Your used to dry, super grippy rock and some sand I assume. Not the case at all out here. It will present a new challenge for you I'm sure.

If youre willing to travel a little further than the places already mentioned, Rausch Creek ORV in Tremont, PA is well worth the trip. Its about 7 hours from Raleigh, not counting stops, but the rock up there is almost like concrete when dry. It is very grippy.

Hey about a committee meeting at Beef 'O' Brady's my kids won't eat anything at Neo.

Define "committee meeting": a time and place for guys to talk Jeep, drink beer, and eat wings.

Bring happy meals for the kids or bribe them with the 20% off frozen yogurt coupon you get with your Neo receipt:)

Craft beer at Neo are $0.10... With a five dollar wrist ban. Still hard to beat especially since anywhere you go these good beers go for over $5 a piece.

there is also a place called richland rd its nothing crazy but there are a lot of rides up there and its a fun trip in the woods about 8 miles long with some creek crossings small rocks and a little mud. awesome place to take the kids. and as said b4 the flats!!! they will be having a open day coming up soon

Welcome! I took a two-week long trip to AZ in 2009 to wheel with some guys out there. Actually spent about 5 days on the trails north Phoenix and west of I-17. Was a blast, and I can totally understand how confused you must be about how little there is to legally wheel here when there is seemingly tons of undeveloped land. NC is practically a "wheeling desert". You guys have tons of BLM property to go play on, we have nothing, and it seems more things close than open nowadays.

Mostly we just web wheel! Ha! And then drive 4-6 hours to go find a place to play.
