My mentor, role model, and friend, Dan Jones.

I first met Dan when I joined the Boy Scouts in 1974. He led us on many camping trips and miles of backpacking all across the state, and many miles up and down the Appalachian Trail. Later, when I was an adult leader, Dan helped me drag many more Scouts up and down the mountains, across the country, and teach life skills to another generation or two.

At 80, Dan was a groomsman in my wedding. He is 96 now, and still very active. The past couple of years, he's gone on our church mission trip to Kentucky.

On Veterans Day, he was guest on a local radio program, Grace Notes on Life 103.1, and talked mostly about his wartime experiences in the Pacific.

An amazing man and story...well worth 22 minutes of your weekend.

Great story and sounds like a good man. It's hard nowdays to find people with the intestinal fortitude that
folks had back in the great depression and WW2. too many people today just have their hand out to the gov for
whatever they can get free. hats off to this genteman and all the WW2 vets (including my father inlaw)
who had experenced life in that time. Kaiser 715 you are lucky to know him--stay in touch and listen when
he talks.

Thanks for sharing. Folks back then accomplished more by age 30 then many in a lifetime.
