I'm in the same boat, 2 different free "monitoring" services plus frozen. Though not sure what the monitoring does if I'm getting an IRS letter before ever hearing from the monitoring folks.I haven't had any problems, but after the leaks & hacks at the various credit agency's, I get their free monitoring, for a year, & had my reports frozen.
The monitoring services can only report activity going through credit reporting channels.I'm in the same boat, 2 different free "monitoring" services plus frozen. Though not sure what the monitoring does if I'm getting an IRS letter before ever hearing from the monitoring folks.
They claim to also report if your info is for sale on various sites as well. Either way I'm glad it was found. Also glad I'm not paying for the monitoring services. The monitoring services can only report activity going through credit reporting channels.
What you're talking about is something only the IRS would know about.
I personally consider that a good thing... would you really like 3rd parties to be able to watch your tax filings also?
That was my first thought but the letter is legit. It doesn't ask for anything. Just recommends checking your social security report, freezing credit, monitor accounts, etc. I already talked to the social security people through the number on the govt site and they were familiar with the type of letter. Are you sure the letter is legit? Do you have to send them any info or money?
You can contact the 3 agencies and put a freeze on it, meaning if someone tries to buy anything with your info that requires a credit check it will be denied. You just have to make sure you don't lose you special pin you set up to unfreeze them if you want to buy something yourself that requires a loan. What does it mean you have your credit report frozen?
I check credit karma regularly. I know it’s leobabky not 100% accurate but I se my scores and keep a check on any new balances. Amazing how not having any debt besides my house actually hurt my credit score.
