Looking for an entire sending unit/fuel pump assembly for my 96 XJ. Why can't I find the entire assembly in amazon or eBay for less than $600?

96 = redhead step child of Cherokees. Don't think you want to look for an entire assembly brand new off of the shelf. That will most likely cost a fortune.

Instead buy a Bosch fuel pump from Napa and roll up your sleeves and replace the pump in the assembly. Then buy the fuel pressure regulator off of quadratec and replace that while you are in there aswell.

NAXJA has a few write ups with pics of the procedure I just described for the 96. I successfully did the job a few months ago and no issues.

Well that was a bust. Out of stock. This could cause problems...

Checked rock auto or oconee off-road?

can you not swap the 97 and up tank in ? I think you have one;)
I do, thanks! There is some wiring mods that need to be done and the gauge won't read from 96-97. Also, I like the ability to change the fuel pump without dropping the tank. I have one on the way now so we'll see if it fits. I'm working on making this thing mechanically top notch and drive the hell out of it. I've bought a new gas tank, header, radiator, water pump and some new a/c part l parts so far. Think I want to finish it off with a decent sanding off of the paint on the hard corners and shoot a matte clear coat over it for the rat rod look.

Then it's off to find a new rear axel...
