I am thinking about upgrading my 98 K1500 back to daily driver status. I can buy a lot of gas for the car payment and insurance payments I am making.

I understand that driving habits and where I drive will make the most difference.

I also understand that any modifications that I do to improve gas mileage will not pay for them selves with gas savings.

What could I do to actually increase my gas mileage in the truck?
Truck is completely stock.

Not sure what motor, trans of gearing you have, that and the type of roads you travel will partially determine the MPG you can get.. Highway vs city etc..

Bottom line, driving slower will always net you the best improvement. 55 if you can stand it.

As said shift as early as you can or the motor will take. Really watch your tire pressure. If the roads are good over inflate them will help some.

Unload any extra weight from the back.

Drive like there is an egg under your foot. Plan ahead. No jack rabbit starts, coast up to lights. Basically any time you use your brakes your wasting gas.

google "hypermiling" tons of good sites and fanatics.

i was hoping for answers like, programmer, cold air intake, exhaust, synthetic gear oil, but i guess i just need to stay out of the skinny pedal.

If it's time to service your driveline, then I'd consider switching to a good synth. Also, keep in mind that your seals need to be in great shape if you do. Synth will find the holes and leak, and that's a lot of money on the ground. A cheap DIY CAI might help if it's time to change the filter anyway. You'll never see the return on investment on exhaust or programmers. Mainly, make sure it's in peak tune and keep it there. Good plugs, timing set, keep off the gas.
