Who has a pic induction cook top? How does it work? I am thinking about one for the camper.

Single burner? 3-top? I'm not sure that shore power would support a bit get range. Seems like it would be a power hog, possibly 220v. Either way, from what I can tell, they're very particular about the cookware you use. I can't get with that. If it won't heat an old cast skillet or warped aluminum pot, I ain't using it.

anything that is ferrous metal, will work pretty much. Cast iron works great on them. The more dense, the better. They "heat up" really quick so you'd actually use less electricity. Also your not left with a hot burner left sitting in a cramped camper b/c it uses magnetic fields to heat the pan/pot... It's true that you can put your hand on the burner while its running. IMHO I'd get one just for that reason alone. It also cooks evenly b/c it heats all the surface within the magnetic field, not just whats in contact with the burner. I had one in a house that I rented at one time. I liked it, Just my .02

Thats what i wanted to hear. The has stove in our camper takes forever to boil water and heats up the camper. Thinking i will get one this week.... I am always leary of the things on info commercials

Glad I could help. I cant speak for the one on tv, but I had thought about getting one myself.

Newegg.com seems to run a couple brands on sale frequently. They always seem to come with a skillet, so I assumed you had to use special cookware. Like the older glass top ranges and textured bottom pans.

I have a flat glass range now, I do alot of the cooking in our house an have been happy with it. Alot of it depends on buying quality stuff, the 10 dolar pan at walmart just aint gonna cut it for good cooking, but then again I use my cast Iron for 90% ofmy cooking

We have an induction cook top in out house and I love it. I've never used a portable one, but the one installed in our kitchen is great. You can literally put a piece of paper between the cook top and the pan while you're cooking, so it's very safe. It boils water fast, and if something starts to boil over it will instantly stop the moment you turn down the power. Good stuff. It's true that there are some pans that won't work with it, but that really isn't a big deal. Not like pans made out of ferrous material are exactly a rarity.
