Looking for something to put it the trail rig. Does anyone have first hand experience with an affordable CB that they are willing to share?

Looking at the Cobra, Uniden, Midland? Model #s?

I have a nice tweaked Cobra in my tow rig, but there is no need to subject a nice cb to the abuse it will see in the rail rig.

uniden bearcat, i got mine from walmart like 70 bucks methinks it works good on my trailrig

scared to death!!!!!

Uniden Pro series. They are small, affordable and very reliable.

Amazon usually has good prices on them.

The midland is more of the platform I desire but is only 4 watts

The uniden is not the ideal platform but is 7 watts

Then there is the dinky cobra

Not looking to transmit to the moon but in an emergency I would like the best reach possible? I'm sure either of them would work talking to the rig behind me.

I feel like I could "tune" the midland the best, but is the 4 watts a drawback?

Cobra 29 ltd classic $100 and works great plenty of power right out of the box. I just installed one in my 18 wheeler and love it. I know plenty of other drivers that love them. The dx19 is a pos though.

I have a jacked up 29 in my tow rig and its a great cb, but too big and nice for my cruiser. No doors or roof so I need something relatively small that I can cram into the dash. I assume anything I install in the cruiser will have a short difficult life if out in the open.

I assumed the 19 was a turd, but its nice to have confirmation.

Anybody run the uniden or midland?

CB are limited to 4 watts (legally).

I have run a Uniden Pro 520 in several different vehicles over the years and have always been impressed with the performance. They have a very small footprint so not a full size rig like the Cobra 29 makes it easy to fit almost anywhere.

Keep a look out also at Loves truck Stops, they have some good specials. Last time I saw a Cobra 29 it was on sale for $69
Invest in good coax and a short tunable fiberglass Antenna like a firestick or a Wilson. Get you a spring loaded mount, so it will bend to go under tree's and brush. As was said they all have same output, you can have some peaked and tuned. Also, the Mic has a lot to do with how well it gets out. Just my experience.

Something else to consider. A lot of people are using the small 5 channel handheld radio's. So check and see who you wheel with most and what they use.

I've had a few of the Unidens. Used a 510 for several years until it crapped out, then "upgraded" to a 520. No complaints.
