“He’s one of the most honest men that I’ve ever known I think he’s shocked also. You’re talking about a woman who’s a retired school teacher, that volunteered and was a member of the fire department so I don’t know what happened,” Grice said.
Doesn't surprise me one bit. A friend of mine's daughter rear-ended her husband's squad car because he backed out of his driveway onto a busy road without looking. He then moved his vehicle prior to the State Trooper getting there to position it in such a way that it looked like he was already into the roadway. State Trooper asked if either car had been moved - he lied, but because her mom got in the vehicle and tried to put it in reverse to test if it was drivable or not and was honest about moving the vehicle 6" (as was evident by the pool of coolant under the car), the county's insurance refused to pay standing by his word over hers, even though the police report clearly stated he was at fault. Insurance claimed it was because the Trooper didn't witness the accident, but the Sherriff did.
I hope she faces justice for this. I just don't see how you could explain away what she was purchasing, but I'm sure it will get pushed under the rug, because she is such an "upstanding citizen". Burns me up when people use a position of authority for personal gain no matter what level they are.
