Info for first time to URE

This will be my first trip to URE and was wondering where's the best places to camp and wheel. My buddys got an H2 so looking for some wider trails. Is there anything special going on up there for memorial day? Preciate all the info I can get.

Depends on what your wanting. Is free more important than showers? Do you mind driving a distance or do you want to be as close to the trails as possible? As far as which trails is best for a Hummer, I haven't a clue. Dickey Bell and Falls Dam are the easiest though.
 
The toughest trails are Daniel, Rocky Mountain Loop, and Dutch John. The first two have bypasses which make them doable but Dutch John has a hill climb. I honestly think you can do all of them without body damage but if you're new to driving off road you might skip them.

Arrowhead campground has showers and flush toilets. It also has "family bathrooms" so if you're protective like me you don't have to send your 6 year old kids into the showers by themselves.
 
Free is good for me, but short distance to the trails is the best for right now. what are the best trails for atv riding? thanks for the quick posts

If you want free and ATV friendly, stay on the trails. I like staying on Rocky Mountain Loop (where the finish line was or closer to the road) or the smaller part of the loop is because it's close to the double parking lot outhouses. Camping on the trail is free but no amenities unless you drive to the double parking lot. It's also easy access for ATV's because of the double parking lot.

Here is a map

The double Parking lot is on 553 and is the lot folks use as the hub for the trails because Rocky Mountain Loop connects to so many trails.
 
I think he means the old ledge where they now have a guardrail to prevent rolling down the gully that was made by ATV's. I also know that the rock area before the ledge is too "slick" for me to do in 2wheel and open, I have to go into 4 wheel drive to get up it.

sure there was, there's been a ledge at the upper RH hairpin turn for years now, just before the 3-point LH hairpin turn.
A new ledge has formed below the existing ledge, its also a RH hairpin turn. As said before, no bypasses here. There used to be an offtrail go-around (cutting the corner of the hairpin) on the upper ledge, but it got quickly rutted out, and became a more challenging line, then the guradrail was constructed.
 
Here's a bad pic when the upper ledge started getting bad, Dec. 2002. I rode here 1.5 weeks ago, I think the upper ledge is actually getting easier now.

I think the section two turns before might be more difficult. Of course having my rig in 4wd would have helped:shaking:. It has definitely improved(deteriorated) over the past couple of years where as the upper ledge in the picture seems to have maybe gotten easier or just stayed about the same.
