Anyone have any experience installing injectors and a valve body on a 24v ctd/47re? I know I've seen a link here before to a writeup on the injectors...

Anyway, I was planning on doing the whole trans--but decided for now just to throw a vb on and deal with it when it dies. I've done a few "shift kits" before, but just want to know what I should look forward to. FWIW, it's a bd power vb and edge injectors.

I would be really interested to see how that tranny holds up with just a VB in it. Always seemed to shift good to me. That was the best acting/shifting stock 47re i have ever been around.

Ha. Well so far I've relocated the lift pump, added an aem "brute force" intake, edge w/ attitude, speedo correction crap, leveling kit with some bilstein 5125's, and a lot of junk on the inside. I've worked on transmission's before, but I really don't feel like pulling this heavy assed trans/tcase so for now it's a vb. Otherwise, I guess I'll just replace shit as it breaks. After the injectors and vb, I'm going to stop by the ricer place here in town and dyno it.

Injectors are a piece of cake just did them on mine and the hardest part was getting the valve cover off. Took about 1 hour and 45 min to do and were not rushing and first set me and buddy had done. It did help he worked for covington diesel and said it was just like a mercedes truck engine. Let me see if I can find directions I had downloaded to do it.

Braxton if you shoot me a pm with your email Ill send you the directions i had with pictures off of diesel dynamics site.

When the TC starts to slip, it'll send little bits of material all through your trans and you'll be buying more new parts (I vaguely remember the guy buying a new VB after his trans fried running the stock TC at higher power levels)..

Food for thought. Just with a VB and TC, they hold up pretty darn well.

Yeah, I'm really torn. My original plan was tc and vb at the same time then save for a beefed trans and reuse the tc/vb. I just really don't want to deal with installing the tc, I've got enough vehicles to work on at the moment. Anyone know how much a shop would charge to install one? Or does anyone here do it?

Jp, I'd appreciate that. Braxton_357 (at) yahoo.com If you have any pics of your truck with those moto-metals, feel free to send them too.

Sending instructions and the one picture I have I need to get some new pictures of it. When not in use and more recent. Let me know if you got any questions on them, they are pretty straight forward to do.

Don't know didly about that trans, but when i did the transgo HD2 kit in my 4l80e i used some trans-gel. Its basically paste and it helps keep all the check balls in place and tack the gaskets on. It dissolves the first time the trans gets warmed up.. was ~$5 at a trans shop. Really helped doing it upside down under the truck.

I'll install the Torque converter and valve body if you want to come to wilmington. I'll even let you watch/help if you want

I have a lift and transmission jack so it will be easy

Rich is right, the factory tc is junk for what the trucks can pull, they came from the factory to shift smooth and last forever with grandpa and nana driving it with stock power levels. If you don't upgrade the TC and pump up the motor your throwing money away. I've got a Trans-go kit waiting for the TCI converter and a new shift sol. I run a quad box and the TC/trans slips on the econo 45hp/130tq setting with 10000lb behind the truck but it pulls awesome and the tow setting is 90hp/250tq so I've never tried it cause I know I'll be walking home with the stock tranny. Get the converter, you'll be happier and save some cash. Call the trans go guys, they'll tell you 1) first replace factory sol 2) then VB 3) a good TC if your pumping up the motor or have more than 80000miles on the tranny.
Have you upgraded your Turbo, the factory turbo really isn't up to bigger injectors, my quad box on the race mode will smoke like a frieght train racing (with no loads of course) mustangs and ricers around town cause the turbo can't supply enough air for the race setting on the box, can't imagine bigger injectors, juice box and stock turbo, might get raw fuel to pour out the exhuast like the tractor pull guys :huggy:

Good suggestions. I bought the injectors because even on setting four with the fueling turned on high, the truck will barely make any smoke. Which kind of has me worried. I don't know if it's because there isn't as much load from the auto trans, the vp44 is on its way out or just because I have a huge filter and exhaust...I have great fuel pressure from the lift pump so that's not a problem. We'll see. If not, I have an hx40 on the mustang...I could always swap it out, though--I think that would be a bad idea unless I went with a full on billet trans and beefed the engine...

Sha_ba, I'll send you a pm.

Depending on years models of trucks depending what levels you need a larger turbo or not ,you can easily tell looking at a pyro guage, smoke levels are not a good indicator. With the smarty on 7 or 9 on mine it will smoke like a freight train on mine down low in the rpm just because turbo hasnt had a chance to spool up yet not because its not a big enough turbo. The rv 275 injectors which are a larger injector 40- 60 hp actually smoke less than my factory ones did with the smarty. The 03 and newer trucks are a totally diffrent animal. You can run the fuel rail out of fuel with electronic boxes and need larger turbo on them with out injectors but a Vp 44 equip truck you can add up to 100 hp injectors pretty safely on a hx 35 with some type of boost device to raise boost levels to around 30 to 32 psi and a single performance box so long as you have some type of 4 in exhaust or better. No the tranny wouldnt last 5 mins with those mods.

Stock clutch on mine is not liking me very much these days.

Well mine has an hx35 with a turbo-back 4" and has been in the low thirties a few times already, so we'll see how it works out.

Anyway, after briefly talking to rich I decided to look closer at DTT and am now going to go with one of their VB/TC/update kits. Now I just need to decide which converter to get and get the trans jack out. :(

Yea you should be good with that then. Like i said my stock clutch is not liking and will prob be getting the trans jack out myself before long to swap clutch out.

Talked to dtt yesterday. Am sending the bd VB and edge stage 1 injectors back and getting some stage 2's as well as a dtt vb and tc. I was impressed at how helpful and knowledgeable they were. Should all be here when I get back from baja. :D

Good choice :)

If you're going to Baja, you'd better get up on it. Everybody else already left.

Are you going to see anybody in particular, or just get durnk and watch the TTs go by?

I'm here now. Going to meet a few people, but I'm not crewing for anyone. Just getting drunk and watching million dollar trucks fly by. :D
