When I was a kid,we used to have "innertubes" that we would use to float down rivers. Looking back I think they were tractor trailer tire tubes. Where could I find these today? I am wanting to float a couple rivers with my kids now, and want to make sure we can make it haha.

This should do it:

I've elected to just rent tubes and get a free shuttle anymore. We haven't used our tire tubes in probably 10yrs but float somewhere every summer. Got ours through a friends tire shop.

Lets be clear - are you looking for tire inner tubes - or tubes specifically designed for floating on? I assume its the latter.
Go to your local outdoor store and buy tubes made for floating. Don't get me wrong, I've floated on air mattresses and tire tubes dozens of times, but handles, cup holders, back rest and mesh bottoms are worth the extra $30
And they aren't 900 degrees on the top surface after sitting in the sun

AgriSupply sells tubes all day long. But put one of them around a cooler and put your ass in a purpose-built float.

And put vests on the kids.

We used to tube all the time boards and rope made them easier to ride in. Im gonna have to agree with the others and say buy purpose built tubing tubes. Safety first whaen it comes to the lil ones

Hell I went down the Broad River on one of these before...

I am looking for floating tubes, I was just saying we used the old tire tubes when I was a kid, and man, it burnt the crap out of you when they were in the sun, and I think I still have rashes on my arm pits from the rubber.

I'm also going to 2nd-motion just renting the first time. There is some value in just showing up, and letting somebody else shuttle etc. Plus if your kids just think its dumb then you didn't waste cash on stuff that will just sit around.

Idk if Academy still has them but we bought some nice tubes w/ cup holders and head rests for $12.99 there. And the beer cooler float was the same price I think.
That said we've yet to use them.
We went tubing in Asheville Saturday and didn't take them cause it didn't say on the website we could use our own but we actually could. Tube rental was $10 SMH.
Im also betting a car or truck tube is more expensive.

We did see alot of the Academy tubes on the river though.

Thanks guys, gonna start looking around. I want to buy because I want to float a large creek on some private land, so no shuttles and such haha.

Years ago we floated in truck tubes also. We would get them from Truck Tire shops. They would give us used ones for free. Some needed patching but it was cheap for teenagers.

Now, I could buy a good one, as mentioned.

We just got through tubing (I float/fished out of mine :D) all last week on some Intex tubes my parents bought at Aldi for like $15. I think the same ones were like $25 at Dicks. Lots better than the old tire tubes we all grew up floating on.

You are correct. But it was an invite trip and didn't have a choice.
We can put in the Henry river about 1/4 mile from where we live and float 4 hrs. But the wife decided we needed to spend $50 for a nasty can ride. Lol

Try Webster Bros. in Walkertown. It was a long time ago but I think that's where ours came from.
