I just finished the most insane transaction in the history of the internet.

Saturday night we were grilling out when one of the heat tubes on the gas grill finally called it quits.

At 10:48pm Saturday night I ordered a replacement gas tube from Amazon.

The mail man just knocked on the door with my package.

If you take the Easter Sunday out of the picture that package arrived within 12 hours of order. How is that even possible.

I feel bad though knowing folks had to work on Sunday to make this happen when I wasnt worried about lead time and actually clicked the 7-10 day free shipping option.

Crazy

Are you sure it was saturday, and you didn't just get confused because you had Good Friday off?

And I really don't believe you ordered it from Amazon, because you didn't say anything about it being broken or dented:rolleyes:

Saturday 4/19 10:48 on my order confirmation.

We order a ton off amazon and I have never had an item arrived damaged.

And by a ton apparently 261 order in 2013.

Or did it come in a box that was 5x oversized for necessity?

Actually I can completely believe this. Remember Sunday (Easter is not a holiday for a large part of America) is still a mail travel day. I've had this exact timetable happen many times
Apparently we are close to one of the major Amazon shipping sites, 95% of the time even though I select the normal Prime 2-3 day service things show up the next day.
Once I ordered a car stereo at 7:15 PM on a Friday at it showed up at 10am Sat morning.

... in a box 3x the size of the stereo of course...

I know a guy that it a site manager for ups and he always talks about amazon they do there own shipping every night all around the country and have a massive amount of warehouses the just drop the boxes off at the nearest hub of usps or ups to the costumer so all they have to to is get it to the local driver in the morning

Local hub in Spartanburg, SC.

Ys the box was easily 5x maybe 10x what it needed to be.

My UPS driver hates me. I used to work for a company that shipped everything to us via UPS. I would regularly get shipments of dispensers for an install that would have 40-50 oversized boxes and an assortment of small boxes, etc. The entire order would sometimes come in 100-200+ boxes by the time all was said and done. Sometimes, the warehouse would be in such a hurry to ship stuff out they would pack one part or tool in a box and not look at the rest of the order. Box was taped and shipped before they realized they could have fit more in.

I'm no longer at that company, but the last time the brown truck pulled in my driveway, he had 11 heavy (over 50 lb boxes) that were filled with dirt. You read that right... DIRT. My wife and I have started doing square foot gardens and because our soil is so crappy here, we have bought bags and bags of Mel's Mix, an excellent product that is only sold via Home Depot online. They don't carry it in any stores within 6 states. When I told the UPS driver what was in them, he laughed so hard he about pissed himself.

So the stuff I ordered last night @ 7pm should be on my doorstep when I get home ? I doubt it but it would be cool

I did the one month prime membership trial, most everything we ordered was shipped thru post office, which in Zebulon Post Office means " oh bless their heart, they probably need that pretty quick, we'll jus set this over here and forget about it for a week or so"

We will send NOTHING of value or importance thru Zebulon post office, it never arrives to destination, and they have no interest in finding it.

Unfortunately we can't select UPS or FedEx only when ordering

Guess no one here shops from Uline. Doesn't matter if it's UPS Ground or South Eastern Freight. Orders in by 6:00pm are delivered next day, usually by 10:30.

Same thing happens when I order from McMaster-Carr. Usually have the stuff the next day even on Ground shipments.

Same with ECGS. Ordered a bunch of stuff last Thursday afternoon it was on the doorstep when I got home for lunch Friday.

I once worked where UPS shipping was used, hence I learned that anything shipped inside of NC, & close areas of neighboring states, is delivered the next business day. And in urgent situations, can be sent as "next day air-before 9am. Regular NDA is something like 11-12. Generally all mail in & out of Charlotte vicinity, is Next day. And Amazon is quick! So I had my Doctors Office, ship me a medicine, that they supply. What I Should have had the next day, They shipped by Fed-Ex! THREE day delivery, @ something like $13! $6-$8, any other shipper. Doctors Office billed me $39-S&H. I small plastic bottle, in 1 over-sized box, at 1 #, with a shipping label created at the push of 1 button. I asked it to be shipped, so I didn't have to find a way to drive 20 miles across town, between 9-5 / M-F. That's also the only reason I haven't cussed them out, in Person!:flipoff:

I understand fast shipping and several places menioned in here (Uline McMaster and ECGS) have all surprised me in the past.

But this was ordered at almost midnight on a Saturday night, then on Easter Sunday, it was picked, pulled and transported from Amazon in Spartanburg, SC and on Monday by 10A it was in my hands.

We are a tier 3 post office, typically anything here passes through Charlotte, then york then hits Sharon post office.

If I mail my water bill into the town of sharon it takes three days to travel 1.2 miles...

Anyway...thought Id share

I ordered a TV from Amazon on a Saturday evening, and on Monday it was in Raleigh and ready for delivery. I thought that was pretty fast.
