Hey fellas...I have a really quick question I hope someone knows the answer to, pertaining to the new Inspections and Registration process. I know you used to have a 45 day grace period for either, then maybe dropped to 30 days, I was never late, so I dunno. That being said, with the new rules/laws, is there still a grace period to get your inspection and registration done? The reason I ask, is my Bronco is due this month, but it'll be a tad difficult passing with no engine in it. I'm waiting on the cam kit, but that won't be here until the earliest of the 29th. So am I going to have to forfeit my tags and then pay all the fees to get it road legal again or will I be able to lapse for a couple of weeks while I get the engine back in and there's no big deal? Thanks for any info.

Im sure someone you know would pass you site unseen.

Turn in the tag until you're done and drop it off insurance. It's cheaper than the fines. Or just wait. I don't think they can hit you with the fines unless someone catches and tickets you.

So that means there are no longer any grace periods? Did that change with the new setup? I know at one time there was a 30-45 day grace period from the end of the month that your registration/inspection expired.

There was no grace period for inspections. It expired at midnight on the last day of the month displayed. The statute allowed that if you got it inspected within 30 days of it expiring then the ticket would be dropped. The registration has a 15 day grace period because that allows for delays in the USPS mail. So if your tag expires in July then its good till august 15th.

Im sure you would be fine just holding of. Get the engine in and go have it done.
It will be a couple weeks after its out before they send letters and if you was to get a ticket(no engine so not likely) those are "fix it tickets" they can be droped if he even writes it.

I had some same issues with my truck and jeeep. Yeah its not really the right and legal theing to do but I had to go to work.

Alright...so I've got a little time, and the first place to go when she's running is to get an inspection. Does anyone know how far out you have before you forfeit your plates?

Several years ago I went about 4 months before they sent me a warning they were going to cancel my plates. That's probably about how long it takes to catch up (e.g. 3 cycles).

Personally I wouldn't push it.

NAw...I wasn't gonna push it. I just didn't want to get to day 15 and then have the state come revoke my rig and then burn it in front of me because it only gets 8mpg's or something...haha. That's why I asked, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't pushing it. Thanks for the info guys. I just didn't want to call the DMV and basically tell them I'm trying to get around their rules, is that ok. Then you have to deal with the bitch on the other line who will give you a litany of shit that you already know...so on and so forth.

I've had plates and inspections go several months late. I went and got the vehicle inspected 6 months late, waited a day and went online for the registration. No fines. I was in the same boat. Broken car.

here's a warning and a lesson to all: My plates were to expire 6/30. On 4/15, I got some service done, and an oil change, and told them to go ahead and inspect it, 6 weeks out from expiration. Things happened, and I got busy, and didn't get to the tag office until 7/15, which is 91 days past the date I got inspected. Inspections are only good for 90 days. :(

After waiting in line 45 minutes, I had to rush and get another inspection that afternoon, then wait in line at the DMV again. Grrrrr. Lucky, this was on the F250, so inspection was only 13 or so bucks.

Yes. The inspection does have to be done within 90 days of the new registration.

It really is much easier to do online than going to the DMV. All the info you need to do it is on the old reggie. They mail the new sticker and card to your house within just a few days.

Yeah but then you get to pay that pesky $3.56 processing fee...but it's well worth it not to stand in that damn line and interact with the counter people that look like they would sooner punch you for renewing your plates...how dare you.
