Installing fifth wheel hitch

A friend of mines wife texted me yesterday and asked me if I would do her a favor and install a " hide a goose" PN946st947s fifth wheel hitch in her husbands truck.

She said that he was coming home soon " doesn't know when exactly, he's in the Army" and that it would be nice if it was taken care of for him. She said that she was afraid he would jump right on it when he got home and didn't want it to stress him out because this deployment was " a bad one on him" He's a good wrencher, he and I have worked on a few trucks/projects together.

I looked over the instructions that she emailed me and I'm a bit scared to go cutting holes in my friends 2007 Tundra bed.

I guess what I'm asking is, who has experience installing these hitches?
I want to help her out, but I'm concerned about damaging his nice truck and the fact that it has to be done correctly because it is rated for 30k towing.

I installed a B&W in our truck. Super easy. The only part of the whole thing that might be problematic is getting the hole located in the bed correctly. Measure three times, go take a break, reread the instructions, measure again, and cut away.

If you have an engine hoist, it might be handy to help hold the center crossmember piece up in place while you assemble everything else. I did without on mine, but I had help holding the main hitch crossmember up in place while we got the bolts started.

Don't worry about the rating -- that Toyota will bend in half before it tows anywhere near 30k.

Can't help with the install but one thing to consider...A 5th wheel and a goose are not the same. Be sure he doesn't actually want a 5th wheel.

thanks guys.. I'm going to go over to their house and have a stare down with the truck / hitch to make a final decision.

I put the b&w in my 07 and 12 dodge trucks. The instructions tell you exactly where to drill.
I measured several times to make sure it was right and both holes are right on the money.

Also on my 12 since its a long bed the engine hoist couldn't reach the hole to hold up hitch without hitting the bumper so I used a 2x4 and ratchet strap and it worked better than hoist on my short bed.

I decided to tell her I didn't feel comfortable cutting on her husbands truck without him there, but I would love to assist him when he returns.

probably a pretty smart decision.... what if its not what he really wanted?
