so I messed up the door/rocker in my 97 f-150 and got an estimate which I thought would be pretty cheap for a new door and some rocker repair, but it seems to be $2,600.... I dont see how but OK.

I know that I can have my truck repaired by a shop of my chioce but my question is can I repair it myself??? I found a used door on ebay for $150 and the rocker looks "normal" to me or I could throw some bondo on it

If I did repair it myself and spent $200 total would I have to give the Insurance Co $2400 back??

I guess I should have just looked for the parts myself and not claimed it to the insurance, saved the $$ that I will now spend over the next 5 years for the increased price

I pay all that $$ and have had 1 claim ever when I wrecked on ice in my 4runner so not thinking I called them and reported it.

do I have to accept their payout or could I refuse it and not have my premiums go up??

thanks for any advise

I just rear ended someone. My insurance company had me get a quote from their own person and he quoted me $500 more than my body shop. I opted to fix it myself and the total for parts was $500. I asked if I have to get it reinspected and they said no. I asked about the money and they said they pay what they adjuster said it would cost. So yes I did keep the oney since I will pay it back and then some over the next 3 years. The bad part is like you it was my first accident but it was the 3 on my policy since my wife had 2 last year. They kind of screw the good drivers in the family.

Same thing happened to me. I rearended someone on my dodge. Only meesed up the front bumper $200 to fix (did the work myself) and i ended up getting over $1,000 on from insurance. I just went and had their adjuster look at it, he totaled it up by the "book" and cut me a check for what they thought it would cost to fix.

If you own it that is one thing but if the bank owns it then most Insurance will cut a check to both and you would need to let the bank look it over to cash it.

Yeah they wrote my check to me and the bank and the bank cashed it for me. All they did is ask if it was fixed. I am not sure how they expect you to fix it first if you need that money to do so. I however didn't have any problems

Rockers are not cheap to fix. Especially if you knocked up the floor pan or have to remove the bed to fix the post.

Just fix it yerself.. You'll most likely save money in the long run over making a claim..
