I've been looking into different car insurance, and none of them seem to be able to give me a square answer as to what is or isnt covered for my Jeep. Most of it seems to be around fuzzy blah blah about "off road" or "non-standard" uses, but they can't tell me what that means exactly - like, is it "off road" if it's on a labeled, state-maintained road that just happens to be unpaved and requires a high-clearance vehicle to pass? What has been y'alls experience? Do you even insure your Jeeps/Yotas/Zuks at all? If so, what all do you get (comp, collision, extended)? Be happy to see responses here or in my PM box if you'd rather be private about it.

Just get comp and collision and if you wreck it while wheeling, just tell them what happened. You should be covered. But you might get dropped too.

I carry the comp, for fire, theft, glass breakage. Doubt I could get collision on a 79 model,or afford it. With carb, wiring, & gas tank, issues I've seen, fire IS a concern. I've had 2 -roll on its side, & my Jeep only has glass in the windshield. I filed claim on first roll, as it broke the glass, & bent windshield frame. I asked by phone, would they cover the frame & glass, if I did my own repairs. They agreed & never asked to see anything but receipts.
Did kind of surprised me, but that the only claim I've had. Second roll, only cracked the glass, & twisted the frame. Frame was an easy fix, & crack will last, til next time. Glad I had the coverage. I didn't mention the roll, seems they understood a large tree limb, hit it. [hush hush];)

I had (and still have) Farm Bureau when I rolled mine at The Flats. I called them and told them what happened. I was perfectly honest, that I was on a trail and that there was no police report because it was on private property. The adjuster looked at it and totaled it. They wrote me a check and I kept the jeep, and they dropped my comprehensive, but kept the collision so I can keep it on the road. Or is it the other way around? I never can remember which is which.

I have comp and collision and I extended an extra 10k for age and all my aftermarket additions. Mines a '99 and if I total it they were only giving me what a stock '99 is worth. It wasn't that much more to add 10k extra of coverage. I was completely honest and I stated, "if I roll it down a mountain will I be covered". He said as long as i don't do it intentionally then yes.
