If posting a thread about this (I did read the clubs sticky) is looked down upon, I apologize. Wasn't sure the best way to go about this.
Anyways, as the title states, I am interested in joining a 4x4 club. I am conflicted as to which would be the best choice. I live primarily in Concord, but am usually in Raleigh at NCSU. I am actually a founder and the President of the Offroad Club @ NC State so I understand what it means to be in and run a club. I am not new to wheeling. Have been doing it regularly for the past 3 years or so. Visit URE often and have done the whole park multiple times. Have been to Big Creek too, as well as some smaller places.
Stats that would be of interest:
Me: 19, BD: 7/5/94
Certifications: Trained in Lay Responder First Aid, CPR, and AED. (And technically still a certified lifeguard for 2 more months, crosstrained with ARC and BSA)
Vehicle: 2004 Wrangler X
Front Axle: Dana 30 w/ Truetrac and Currie CA skids (4.10)
Rear Axle: Ford 8.8 w/ Artec Truss
Tires: 33x12.5x17 MTZ's with decent tread left
Winch: Warn M8000
Bumpers: Metalcloak Stubby/ Rampage Bumper and Carrier, both with 2 tow points
Skids: Flat 1/4" Steel Skid w/ Custom Transmission Crossmember
Other Armor: Metalcloak Sliders
CB: Uniden PRO-520XL (Troubleshooting locking up issue)
Steering: ZJ Tie rod
Strobe Setup (Verified legal with DOT and only used in roadside emergencies)
Carry:
- First Aid Kit
- Tow Strap
- Tree Saver
- Snatch Block
- Several Shackles
- Fluids
- Gloves
- Trash Bags
- Spare Tire
- Mechanics Tool Set
- Zipties
- Bottle Jack
- Have a tire iron back home I can grab for events if needed
- Factory Battery Tie Down
- Tire Deflator
I can pick up a fire extinguisher over summer. Been wanting to get one anyways.
Within the next year, it will be running a trussed Waggy 44 in the front with chromoly shafts and custom steering. The 44 will have a Lockright and Warn locking hubs. Rear will have a selectable (OX probably) and a Super 88 kit. 6" of total stretch (4" rear, 2" front), 4 linked in the rear and 3 linked in the front (Duroflex joints). Will be running Hutchinson CJ beadlocks, Falken Wildpeak MT 37x12.5x17's, and full Metalcloak armor with 4" flares. I already have some of the stuff (axle, truss, front locker, ect) and will be ordering the majority of the remaining stuff over summer.
So it should be pretty capable before too long.
I am looking for a large club. Family oriented is no problem. I am calm, respectful, and abide by all rules. Absolutely against wandering from the trail and littering. I am down for whatever and do what the group does, so if that means stopping often to watch/help others in the group over an obstacle, that is perfectly fine. I have primarily been looking at Carolina Trailblazers and CNC4x4, since they seem to be the bigger groups whose names I see quite often. CNC is local to NCSU and CT hosts meetings at their rides, so either seem to work. Any info and opinions are appreciated.
My rig:
On Daniel (decently capable):
And to prove I want to help people, my club and I rescued countless cars and large box trucks (and a semi) during the last snowstorm. This was the only time I have ever used the strobes.
(Friend captioned that for theChive, not me)
