I have a 2005 Ram 2500 with factory stereo (RBK). Anybody connected an iPod adapter to their Ram? Any recommendations for which one to get, or am I better off buying an aftermarket stereo that already has the iPod connection on the front?

Theres a really good one on crutchfield. Works with your factory wheel buttons.

Can't think of the name of it but just look on crutchfield and you'll see a few but one lets you use factory steering controls.

if you cant find a conection for your stock radio....check hhgreg, i got an open box special jvc i-pod ready radio for my f250 for i think aroind $70, it was a lot better sound quality than my stock radio anyways

My wife bought me the iSimple PXDP ipod adapter from SonicElectronix.com for Christmas. It didn't come with the cable to go from the box to the factory stereo, you have to order those separate and Sonic Electronix says they quit carrying the cable that is needed for my 2005 Dodge, WTF!!! Anybody used this one before?

careful with the aftermarket iPod capable stereos, I have a JVC with the USB port in the face, will control the iPod

It almost cooked my iPod touch, over voltage, was hot as hell and started screeching

dang, never had that problem with mine and i leave it plug in all the time....mine has the cable coming from the back though if that would make a differance

thats the first that ive heard that, what model number do you have? The older usb radios charged with 12 volts and newer ipods such as touch charge off of 5 volts, but ive never had a problem with heat? they just wouldnt charge. Please let me know what the model number is of the headunit, as i am in the industry and id like to check on that problem

this is the company that makes the pxdp, and i have used them on assorted vehicles with mixed results

I have had better results with the usa spec adapters. Im not sure if they offer one for your truck or not

but honestly you can buy a usb radio for under 150 that will be much easier to use with the ipod, plus you will get a much better sound. Pioneer, JVC, Alpine, and Kenwood all have very nice units in the sub 200 price range that will do what ya want. The install kit and harness for that truck should be very affordable, under 30 for both and you will prolly need an antenna adapter as well. If you arent set on keeping the oem i would prolly just swap it out. If you want to use the pxdp and cant find a harness let me know, ill see if i can get you one

oh and if you can find a radio with rear usb i think it looks much better than having the usb hanging out the front of the unit. Good luck finding one though cause pretty much every manufacter thinks people want them hangin out the front?

JVC KD-HDR50, little over a year old, had the problem last summer on a road trip. was playing thru the iPod and it started screeching, picked it up, was hot as hell.

since then, the battery life hasn't been the same. still works, but I'm leary of plugging it back into the JVC head unit. if I had a way to pin out the connector and check voltage, I'd do it just to see if that was actually the issue.

hmmm...thats odd, that should be one of the newer units that does 5v charging. Ive never had an issue with those and sold a ton of them at my old shop. ill do some digging on the issue and see if i can find out anything for you.

Head to ebay and get one of those PAC adapters. It's a breeze to install, keeps your ipod charged and lets you use your radio and steering wheel controls. It will display your ipod info on your factory radio.

I had one installed in my G35. Bought one for my girlfriends Jeep.

Just my $.02

Since I already had the PXDP adapter I ordered the PAC cable, so when it gets here, we'll see how it works. Thanks for the input everyone!
