Picked it up from work it was free!! and was just curious if it was strong enough to use for the 3 link front of my yj with rocks. My origional plan was for 2in solid stock aluminum. Now im curious if the 1 1/4 steel would hold up

I'm sure it would be. However, I've used 1.25" solid for a tie rod and it still bent.

If its free, go for it.

strength to weight ratio is not as good as tube, but for free, I'd use it.

the diameter of the tubing is just as important as the wall thickness.. 2" .250 would be a miminum for rocks and a full size on the lowers

Some would say, even MORE important, since strength goes up faster with OD increase than with thickness increase (OD decrease)

I would use 1.25", no problem.. for my car.

But isn't your car a yugo?

tube is much stronger than solid because there is more surface area

If you're going to say that, you have to add the "by weight" part. Otherwise it's just untrue.

Either way, tube or solid--1.25 doesn't have the diameter to make a strong lower link for any truck...let alone something running rockwells.

:stupid:
Just got done teaching my students about tubes and cylinders. To calculate the strength of a tube you calculate the strength as if it was a cylinder w/OD and deduct/subtract the strength of a cylinder the same size as the ID of the tube.

wow!! thanks:beer: Ive ran rocks before this is just my first rig that Im gonna link up instead of using leaves. Im using trail-gear joints with 18mm bolt holes and ballistic's lower coil mounts that have the link mount made into them and a ballistic link helmet and plan to three link it with panhard. What would be the best size dom to use that will hold up? and does anyone know of anyone running rocks with 3link on factory yj frame just like to look at something for comparison
