I'm logging about 18 miles of beach driving daily and am looking for an extre vehicle to have a a back-up when the main one is in the shop. I found an 89 Cherokee that look to be in good shape, but is a 4 cylinder. Should I be worried that it won't have the power to pull well through the sand?

i would hold out and look for one with the inline 6. they are way plentiful and def betterthan the 4 popper

:stupid: unless youre just looking at mpg

Depends on gearing, and tire size. But, if you can find a simular 6 banger I think you will be happier

They are about the same in MPG, you have to work the 4 banger harder for the same results.

If it is a killer deal, it may be worth it. But what is the main vehicle that is in the shop often enough to warrant an extra vehicle?

not to hijack the thread but anyone know the mpg a 4 banger cherokee gets? Ive been kinda looking around for a straight drive 4 banger to putt around town in. My current DD is an 05 ram 1500 that logs anywhere from 14-17 mpg.

I have just figured that since I am over an hour away from the repair shop and it may be out of comission for 2-4 days if it breaks over the week-end that I hould have a spare back-up vehicle.

I have the sweet ass 2.5 hurricane in my cherokee and it does fine but I can't I'd say it's about the same on gas as the 4.0...and way less power. However it will keep you from snaping shafts as much.

But it doesnt keep you from breaking CVs :flipoff2:

Id hold out for the 4.0L, even though alotta the YJ/TJ guys Ive talked to from the beach prefer the 4cyl...

Tru Dat....I Depending on how you cash flow is....You could get a 2.5 and then do the SRT4 hybrid like some of the guys on pirate. 350+hp out of the ole 2.5. Plus turbos are the shit.
