is it illegal to take things from the dump?

I have been known to set some things at the road long before trash day so people can get it if they want. got rid of a couple of tvs and some other stuff that way. saved me a trip to the dump and maybe somebody got some use out of it.

Ya know every time I do that, it won't even get touched...but if I put 'For Sale $10' on that object, I'll get people come knocking on my door offering $5 all day long. I think it has something to do with the 'if it's free there must be something wrong with it' mentality.
