Is the linkage the same on a 231 & 242 TC

I'm trying to find out if the linkage is the same length for both transfer cases. There both out of a 99 XJ. The Jeep with the 242 TC did not come with a linkage on it, so I went to the junkyard and only found one with a 231 TC so I pulled it. I installed it and adjusted the linkage, but it will either go into 4low, N, Full-time, Part-time, and not 2wd. When I adjust it the other way its vice versa, it will go 2wd,part-time, n, full-time, and will not got into 4low. It seems the linkage is just a little short.. Just to clarify I'm only talking about the linkage that goes into the TC .. Any advice would be great..

It is the same, I know for a fact. You need to adjust the linkage with the case in low, put the shifter in low, and tighten the jambolt.
