Is there a Min Age to drive on the Trails at URE?

Thought so, my little cousin always rode a dirt bike cause he wasn't old enough to ride his 300ex.

LOLOL at calling anyone with the dmv and thinking you got a real answer.

You would be just fine with a 12yo driving a quad by himself but not a jeep with his father in the passenger seat?

1) The OP said the 12 yo was driving solo. No adult in the vehicle.

b) An unattended child can do a lot more damage to others with a 5k rig (mine is 5545#) than they can on an ATV.

damn, lighten up people. snappy answered the question after talking to the forest service and folks are still arguing about it. if someone wants to let their kid drive around in the woods then whats the problem? if you don't feel safe around it then maybe you shouldn't be out in the woods anyway cause their are all kinds of scary things out there likes snakes, spiders, skeeters. i guess i am just old and things was a lot different when i was 13 and 14.we were allowed to do things that would get a parent sent to jail these days.

Hard to argue that logic.

I have no input on if its legal or not but as far as opinion goes I don't see why a 12 yr old can't drive with adult. I learned to drive way before legal driving age and when it came time for drivers Ed I was definitely years ahead of the other 2 people that drove with me. I think allowing them to drive and practice a few years is a lot safer then giving them a week or 2 driver Ed class an letting them go at 15. Can do a lot more damage at 60mph on highway then 10mph in the woods. Just my $.02

The good people who have good kids will make good decisions. The tards who breed more tards will already be out at Uwharrie riding around half drunk anyway, so it's probably wiser to let their kids drive.

NC law only regulates driving on roads and public vehicular areas (also known as parking lots). While the trails might be interpreted as a PVA, NC does not require a drivers license to operate a motor vehicle in a PVA and people are regularly advised to go to empty PVA's to teach their kids to drive. The only difference would be if the Forest Service adopted something different or if the trail was considered a public road.

As far as private land such as the flats. Dmv has no rules as far as age for operating a motor vehicle on private property. I would use some common sense though as other laws outside of traffic laws may apply if they hurt someone while driving.

Just got a return call from officer Foote. As of right now it is legal for her to drive on ohv trail system. They are changing the rules sometime in the near future which requirements will change. When this happens he is going to email the changes in writting and i will post under the ure news sections...

Yeah that's just what we need more laws.....chill out people. Let her drive
